Melbourne Stars have been quite consistent across the BBL seasons. Except BBL 2017-18, they reached the knock-out rounds in all the editions and appeared for BBL final twice but are yet to go the extra mile and win the trophy. In this season, Glenn Maxwell led Melbourne Stars look very good, as they won their first two games of the season, against Brisbane Heat and Hobart Hurricanes. On the other end, bushfire smoke at Canberra forced Adelaide Strikers' first match at to be aborted, however, they were successful in overwhelming Perth Scorchers in their next match playing at home. Unfortunately, Melbourne Stars have to let go of the leading wicket-taker Rauf with Dale Steyn’s returning to the squad.

With two wins in two matches, Melbourne Stars got the start they wanted. In the first outing, Melbourne Stars posted a total of 167 powered by the astounding knock from the skipper Glenn Maxwell (83 off 39 balls, 7 fours, 5 sixes). Adam Zampa (4 overs 3 for 30) led the defense as Stars bowlers did not allow Brisbane Heat to cross 150. Haris Rauf (2 for 20) and Worrall (2 for 21) were significant with the ball as well.
In the second game against Hobart Hurricanes, the openers, especially Stoinis (81 in 54 balls 7 fours, 4 sixes) powered the team to cross 160 again while batting first. Rauf's five-wicket haul, 4 wickets shared equally between Zampa and Maxwell, and Lamichhane’s 1 for 18 led the team to the second consecutive victory. As their bowlers are contributing collectively, the batsmen, especially the lower middle-order need to be more productive as they move forward in this tournament.
Key Players - Glenn Maxwell, Adam Zampa, Marcus Stoinis

In two games the Strikers played so far, they won 1 game while their first game was abandoned due to bushfire smoke. If they were asked to play four balls more, Adelaide Strikers would have lost the game as per D/L method. So, they earned 1 point there which could be crucial towards the end of the group stage. For the Strikers, their much-talked-about player Philip Salt is yet to score in double-digits. While he got out on a duck in the first game against Sydney Thunder, he got out on 2 against Perth Scorchers. However, Weatherald (42 runs), Alex Carey (45 runs) and Jonathan Wells (55 off 32 balls) had played well in the game against Thunder. In the second game too, the trio Weatherald (47 balls 83), and Carey (24 balls 55) and Wells (9 balls 18) helped the team to post a total of 198. The Scorchers had been given 18 overs to reach the same target as D/L method was applied. Strikers bowlers bounced back in the game after conceding around 11 runs in first 8 overs, thanks to the double-blow from Rashid Khan in the 9th over, and they eventually won the match by 15 runs. The bowlers need to be extra careful while dealing with Stars batsmen, especially Maxwell and Stoinis.
Key Players: Jake Weatherald, Alex Carey, Rashid Khan
Cameron Valente, Philip Salt, Matthew Short, WA Agar, Alex Carey, Jake Weatherald, Peter Siddle, Rashid Khan, CL White, Billy Stanlake, JW Wells
On the match day, the weather at Carrara is forecasted to be partly sunny with a shower in places. The daytime temperature would reach around 26°c while nighttime minimum temperature would be no less than 21°c.
The venue for the match is Carrara Oval, Carrara, Queensland.
The only T20 international game played here was between Australia and South Africa, in November last year, which was reduced to 10 overs a side game due to rain. Australia failed to chase 109 runs in given 10 overs. The surface overall looks very good for batting throughout and hence it is recommended to field first.
Melbourne Stars are on the hat-trick as they play Adelaide Strikers at Carrara Oval, which is a very good surface for batting, ideally suited for Maxwell and his company. Adelaide Strikers batsmen have also been successful in scoring big, however, apart from Rashid Khan, they lack strike bowlers which can be costly against teams like Melbourne Stars. Melbourne looks more balanced sides between the two. Overall statistics do favour Stars more as Adelaide Strikers are playing away.
