The iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground is all set to witness a cracker of a duel as arch-rivals - Melbourne Stars and Melbourne Renegades take on each other in the first match of BBL 2019-20.
Melbourne Stars, led by all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, are among the favorites to grab hold of the title in the ongoing BBL edition and with top-notch exhibitions in the matches competed so far, it shouldn't come as a surprise if they manage to outwit the Renegades and settle scores for their defeat in the finals of BBL 2018-19. As of present, the Stars are seated comfortably at the top spot in the points table with 4 wins in 5 matches and will look to capitalize on the momentum at MCG.
On the other hand, Melbourne Renegades have been pretty dismal this season with defeat in every single contest played so far. The defending champions haven't lived up to the expectations and it is about time the Aaron Finch-led side stand up on the occasion. It would be a must-win game for the bottom-placed Renegades as they compete against an in-form Stars.

Marcus Stoinis (213 runs n 5 innings) is currently second on the list of leading run-getters in Big Bash this season. In fact, Stoinis was hitting the ball pretty decently in the last match against Thunder wherein he registered a half-century with 4-fours and 2-sixes. Coming in at No 3, Nick Larkin played a ripper of an innings versus Thunder as scored 45-ball 65 comprising 8-fours and a six and would be backing himself to put a similar show versus Finch & Co. Skipper Glenn Maxwell (129 runs in 5 innings) has been leading the side upfront and was highly effective with the ball in the recent outing wherein he scalped 2/17 in his 3 overs of play.
Bowling wise, Adam Zampa (7 wickets in 5 innings) has got the opposition under control and with fellow spinner, Sandeep Lamichhane would look to spin the game in the Stars' favor. Pacers Dale Steyn and Nathan Coulter-Nile have been economical so far and will be banked to affect the dismissals in the early stages.
Peter Handscomb, Nic Maddinson, DW Steyn, N Larkin, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Adam Zampa, Nathan Coulter-Nile, D Worrall, Sandeep Lamichhane, Ben Dunk
Shaun Marsh (190 runs in 5 innings) and skipper Aaron Finch (166 runs in 5 innings) have been the few positives for the Renegades in their disastrous run in BBL 2019-20. Marsh scored a gritty 40 in the recent match against Sixers and would look to elevate his striking rate in the next bout.
Wicket-keeper Sam Harper scored a blistering 24-ball 45 in the previous contest and along with all-rounder Daniel Christian would look to capitalize amidst the conditions of MCG. In the bowling department, pacer Kane Richardson (8 wickets in 5 innings) is enjoying a rich vein of form at present.
Spinner Cameron Boyce (5 wickets in 5 innings) has been second in command for the Renegades and with left-arm, Harry Gurney (3 wickets in 3 innings) in the squad would look to unsettle the rivals.
Aaron Finch, TLW Cooper, Sam Harper, Shaun Marsh, KW Richardson, Tom Andrews, Cameron Boyce, Richard Gleeson, BJ Webster, DT Christian, Will Sutherland
It is going to be a bright and sunny day at MCG with the temperature gliding between 15-20 degrees Celsius. Excellent cricketing conditions prevail for both the teams. Batsmen, in particular, would be in for entertainment as the average 1st innings total at this venue is 150.
Any score above 160 would be a par total at this venue. With the wicket tailor-made to assist the batsmen, the pacers would have to try out some variations to get wickets to their name.
The toss winning team should look to bat first on this occasion. The clear skies and sunny weather would offer great help to the batters early on in the contest.
Melbourne Stars have had the advantage on the majority of occasions in T20s and at this particular venue, there' a strong possibility for the Men in Green to put up a stellar display in the coming contest. The form of Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, and Adam Zampa will surely offer the Stars the much-needed advantage over Renegades at MCG.
