The Melbourne Stars are dismantling opponents one after the other in this season of the Big Bash League. They won the last one against the Renegades comfortable and will play at home in the next one against the Sydney Sixers. The Sixers to have played well and currently sit on the second spot on the points table. It will be the most interesting game of the tournament so far given the kind of form the two sides have shown so far.
The Stars have been on an incredible high this season and the scale of their wins would make the team a confident lot.
Sixers on their part come into this game having won their last three games and are the only team that matches up well against the Stars. It will be a battle of character and the fans on both the camps are likely to be treated to a close contest.

Glenn Maxwell’s side seems to be growing in confidence with every game. In the last home derby against the Melbourne Renegades, they registered a comfortable 7 wicket win. Maxwell would want his side to carry the same momentum as they meet one of the strongest teams of the season and would look to make good use of the home conditions.
Marcus Stoinis has looked good this season and along with Maxwell is the leading run-getter. This duo would be looking to power the side to a win in the next game. Hilton Cartwright playing his first game did well against the Renegades. Nick Larkin is also in good form and down the order, Seb Gotch and Nathan Coulter-Nile complete a good batting line-up for the side.
Haris Rauf is bowling well this season and he will look to inflict early damage on their opponents. Maxwell and Nathan Coulter-Nile must bowl well with the new ball and carry on with their form. With Lance Morris and Sandeep Lamichhane in the side, they have a good bowling attack to take on the Sydney Sixers.

Three back to back win has have added to the confidence level of side. Moises Henriques who missed out on the last game to be with his wife for childbirth is likely to return to lead the side. This will the toughest challenge so far in the season for the Sixers and the skipper would want the side to play as well as they have done in the last three games.
The batting show wasn’t good from the side in the last game but they will expect runs from Josh Phillippe at the top who has been their leading run-scorer this season. Justin Avendano will need to support him well. Henriques, Daniel Hughes and James Vince are good players in the middle order and they will look to make big scores in the game.
Jack Edwards and Tom Curran down the order add to the batting strength of the side. Their bowlers are doing a good job in the middle and Ben Dwarshuis has been bowling well this season. Josh Hazlewood and Tom Curran also impressed with their bowling show in the last game. But they would need good support from Lloyd Pope and Jackson Bird as they are up against a very strong batting unit that the Stars have.

The weather would be heavy over Melbourne on January 12 and this would make batting difficult. The pitch here has been a tough one to bat on as we have already seen in the games played so far. Bowlers get their initial bounce and movement off the surface. Any score above 160 runs would be a fighting total on this surface.
Melbourne Cricket Ground is one of the most challenging venues for the batsmen as the large size of the park doesn’t allow them to free their arms and they have to depend on accumulating. Fast bowlers enjoy the early assistance they get from the surface while the spinners get wicket taking opportunities thanks to the size of the ground.
The two games played so far at this venue have been won by sides batting second. The pitch is a challenge one to bat on and setting up a target is difficult and teams rather prefer chasing here. The captain winning the toss would have this in mind and is expected to invite the opponents to bat first.
The build-up to this game has been huge as both the side comes here in great form. The visitors Sydney Sixers after their three consecutive games would be very confident going into this game. They have played well in the season and lost just two games.
Melbourne Stars, on the other hand, are in fifth gear at the moment and have been toying away with their opponents. Playing at home plus the kind of form they are in would make them favorites going into this game.
