Kane Williamson’s side held their nerves to win a close contest against West Indies. The fact that the side pulls off the game in the final overs of the game would have given a lot of confidence to the side. They are now sitting in the top of the points table and almost earned themselves a place in the semi-finals of the tournament. Williamson would like his side to maintain the momentum as they go into the next game.
Kane Williamson has been majestic in the last two games with two hundred. The last one against West Indies was a big one and almost 50% of his team’s runs. Ross Taylor also played well in the last game. It was a rare failure from Martin Guptill and Colin Munro but the opening duo has done well in earlier games. Tom Latham, James Neesham and Colin de Grandhomme add strength to the lower order for the side making batting look formidable.
Trent Boult bowled brilliantly to pick 4 wickets in the last game. Lockie Ferguson also did well and he has looked in good form in this tournament. Matt Henry had a bad day and will look to do well in the next game. With Neesham, Mitchell Santner and Colin de Grandhomme in the bowling unit they have a great attack which will test West Indies' batting.

Babar Asam has been consistent in this tournament with Haris Sohail making a strong impression with a fiery knock in the last game. Imad Wasin and Mohammad Hafeez add punch to the batting. In the bowling department, Mohammad Amir has been brilliant in the tournament so far. It was good to see Wahab Riaz and Shadab Khan doing well for the side in the last game. This would have added confidence to the side with the likes of Shaheen Afridi and Imad Wasin in the side.

The weather prediction at Birmingham for June 26 is of overcast conditions which will make life difficult for the batsmen. Even in the earlier game at this venue, the pitch looked one of the toughest to bat on in the tournament. A score of 270 runs batting first should be a fighting total on this surface.
Venue
Edgbaston, Birmingham has been known to be a slow wicket where batsmen can’t easily hit through the line. The fast bowlers get favorable conditions at the start and the spinners are also able to grip and turn the ball. The large boundaries also make it a tough ground for the batsmen who have to build their innings to do well.
The only game played at this venue in the tournament has gone in favor of the team that has chased the score. With predictions for cloudy conditions, the ball is expected to move around a bit in the morning. The team that wins the toss would have no hesitation in inviting the opponents to bat first on this surface.
The two sides have played different brands of cricket so far. New Zealand has been clinical in their approach which reflects in their results as they haven’t lost a single game yet. For Pakistan, it has been their old story of being inconsistent with their game. On their day they have looked good and ordinary in the very next game. Going by the momentum and consistency New Zealand would definitely start favorites to win this game and book a place in the semi-finals.
