The 25th game for the ICC Cricket World Cup would see the South African side lock horns against New Zealand at Edgbaston, Birmingham. The Kiwis have won all their games so far in the tournament and had to share the points in the game against India after it was hit by rain. The fortunes for the South Africans have been quite the opposite as they lost their first three games and saw the fourth one being washed away. It was only in their last game against Afghanistan that the side played to its potential.
It has been a poor start to the tournament for the South Africans and New Zealand would go into the next game with a good amount of confidence in their abilities. It will be interesting to see if South Africans are able to live up to their reputation in the next game.

Kane Williamson wouldn’t have liked seeing the last game against India being washed away by rain. They had defeated the Indians in the warm-up game and would have hoped to do so again in the last game. With no defeats so far the team is looking solid. They would know that the South African side isn’t in the best of form and hope to do well in the next game.
Martin Guptill and Colin Munro have done well for the side with the bat at the top of the order. The batting has looked good for the side with Ross Taylor, Kane Williamson also having scored runs in the middle. The side has a good lower order in the form of Tom Latham and James Neesham and they will make it a formidable force against the South Africans.
New Zealand has impressed with its bowling line-up till now in the tournament. Matt Henry has been among the leading wicket-takers and Lockie Ferguson has also bowled well for the side. With someone like Trent Boult leading the bowling attack, the Kiwis would always count their chances. The side also has two good bowlers for the middle overs in Mitchell Santner and Colin de Grandhomme.

Faf du Plessis would have surely been relieved after his side’s win against Afghanistan. The side started with three losses and might have just escaped another against West Indies due to rain. They finally have got the monkey off their back. They have to win all their remaining games to stay alive in the tournament and would know that New Zealand would come hard at them.
Hashim Amla finally got some runs must to the relief of the side in the last game. Quinton de Kock also batted well. They have a good batting line-up with Aiden Markram, Faf du Plessis, Rassie van der Dussen, David Miller and Andile Phehlukwayo and will have to fire together as a unit for the side to win the contest.
Their bowling line-up did well in the last game. Chris Morris and Imran Tahir were among the leading wicket-takers in the last game. Kagiso Rabada has also bowled well in this tournament so far and it would require a great effort from these guys along with Andile Phehlukwayo and Beuran Hendricks to restrict the New Zealanders given the kind of strength they have in their side.

The weather forecast for June 19 at Birmingham presents a gloomy picture with chances of rain. There have been showers for several days and this will make it a slightly damp wicket to play. The side batting first would be eyeing a total of around 300 runs and should feel comfortable with that.
VENUE
Edgbaston, Birmingham has been good ground for the bowlers where there is early juice on the surface to be exploited. The bigger dimension of the ground compared to a few others in English soil also make it tough to hit boundaries. The bowlers have to work on building their innings at this venue and they can score runs after that.
This will be the first game of the tournament at this venue and the pitch is expected to be fresh with some grass cover. Fast bowlers would get early assistance from the surface and we expect the skipper winning the toss to bowl first on this surface.
It has been a tournament where New Zealand has dominated in the three games it has played so far and surely looks like a team that would make it to the playoffs of the tournament. For South Africans, on the other hand, it has again been one edition where they have failed to live up to the expectations. In fact, they have shown symptoms of chocking right from the word go and need to win this game to remain relevant for the rest of the tournament. New Zealand is definitely a better side at the moment and shall start as favorites in the next game.
