It is the 3rd game of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 and one of the pre-tournament favorites New Zealand Women would be playing against Sri Lanka Women at Perth. The Kiwis are in good form at the moment and did well in the home series against South Africa and shall look to carry that form into this game.
Sri Lanka Women, on the other hand, are coming into this game with 10 consecutive losses behind their back. Sri Lanka Women have never won a T20 game against New Zealand Women and this is likely to play in their mind as they go into this game. Their recent form also doesn’t offer much encouragement to the side. New Zealand Women would be looking to exploit this and win the game. The Kiwis will look to gain momentum with a win before they play some of the bigger opponents in the series.

Sophie Devine would be expecting a perfect start in this tournament from her side as they play against Sri Lanka Women in this game. They have done well in the recent past and shall be looking to make good use of the familiar pitch conditions they are likely to encounter at Perth. The side will expect a good start from Rachel Priest and Devine in this game. Both of them have been in good form during the South Africa series.
Middle-order has good hitters in Suzie Bates, Maddy Green and Amelia Kerr. With Katey Martin and Lauren Down in the finishers’ role, their batting looks strong ahead of the game. The side will expect a good start from its new-ball pair of Rosemary Mair and Jess Kerr. Both these players are in good form ahead of the game. They have a good variety in their bowling attack with Holly Huddleston, Hayley Jensen and Amelia Kerr shaping up well in the last couple of series.
Hasini Perera, Kavisha Dilhari, Shashikala Siriwardene, Harshitha Madavi, Chamari Atapattu, Nilakshi de Silva, Achini Kulasuriya, Ama Kanchana, Anushka Sanjeewani, Sugandika Kumari, Udeshika Prabodhani
Chamari Athapaththu’s side just got the kind of boost they require in the last warm-up game against England Women which they won by 10 wickets. The Sri Lankan skipper would like her team to draw confidence from that win as they play their first game of the tournament. She will look to get over the poor record they have against the Kiwis. At the top of the order, Chamari Athapaththu and Hasini Perera displayed good form in the last game and they will be looking to provide a good start to the side.
The middle-order also has got capable batters in Harshitha Madavi, Nilakshi de Silva and Anushka Sanjeewani. They will have to improve their scoring rate as this hasn’t been the best in the last few games. Udeshika Prabodhani and Shashikala Siriwardene are looking in good form with the new ball and they would have to inflict early wounds on the Kiwi batting line-up.
The likes of Sugandika Kumari, Athapaththu and Achini Kulasuriya will have to restrict the flow of runs in the middle overs for the side to win this game.
Jess Kerr, Katie Perkins, Leigh Kasperek, Hayley Jensen, Lea Tahuhu, Maddy Green, Amelia Kerr, Suzie Bates, Katey Martin, Sophie Devine, Rachel Priest

There is forecast for overcast conditions at Perth on February 22 and we might even have rain disruption during the game. The pitch would be a challenging one to bat on given the conditions as fast bowlers are likely to enjoy bowling on this surface. The side batting first would be happy to put up a score in excess of 140 runs on this surface.
WACA Perth is one of the most sporting wickets in the world and most of the matches played here have balanced it out between the batters and the bowlers. There is early assistance for the bowlers on this surface and the ball coming onto the bat nicely also allows batters to play their strokes.
The conditions would be good for bowling first on this surface with the lively pitch being assisted by the overcast weather. In the event of rains the side batting second would have advantage and hence the side that wins the spin of the coin would invite the opposition to bat first here.
New Zealand Women have better knowledge about playing in these kinds of conditions and are a strong line-up both in the batting as well as bowling departments. The Sri Lankan side has had a poor record against them in the past but they will look to draw inspiration from their performance in the last warm-up game which they won easily against England Women.
Given the conditions we expect New Zealand Women to start as favorites in this game.
