The host side Pakistan will take on Sri Lanka in the single test match series starting from Friday at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi. Earlier in the tour, Pakistan had convincingly defeated visitors in t20; won the series 2-0. However, in five-day games, both the team are currently sailing in the same boat as both the teams have highly struggled against the top-ranked test teams. Though Pakistan won their last series against Sri Lanka 1-0, they were outplayed by Australia 2-0 before the Sri Lanka series.
On the other hand, Bangladesh lost their last three-test series against India, New Zealand and Afghanistan since 2019. It is a good opportunity for both the side to bounce back from their earlier failures by winning this series. Head to head Pakistan holds very formidable records against Bangladesh as they are undefeated against them in test matches. Pakistan team led by Azar Ali has dropped the Kashif Bhatti and Usman Shinwari from their last squad. For Bangladesh, in the absence of veteran Mushfiquir Rahim, Liton Das will take a wicket and out of form, Musfiqiur Rahim has been dropped off. Momentum is with the Pakistan side and they would look to win test series as well. On the other hand, Bangladesh would seek resurgence and register their maiden test victory against Pakistan.

The Pakistan batting line-up looks solid with the likes of skipper Azhar Ali, Babar Azam and Asad Shafiq in the unit. Currently, Babar Azam is Pakistan’s best batsman in all three formats of the game. He is a very skillful player and always finds the way to score runs. Notably, Babar Azam scored 472 runs from the last 7 innings at an impressive average of 94.90. Abid Ali also had a great start in the test cricket, scored 321 runs in just 3 innings, which includes his century on debut against Sri Lanka.
Skipper Azhar Ali is the most experienced test player in the squad. He scored 5885 runs from 77 test games at an average of 42.64. However, he is out-of-form off late and would look to score big inning and lead from the front. Asad Shafiq and Mohammad Rizwan, and Shan Masood would be the other specialist batsmen in the side.
Pakistan bowling unit is very formidable which can run through Bangladesh batting line-up. Pacer Shaheen Afridi has been in stupendous form with the red ball, picked 13 wickets from the last 5 innings at an average of 28.46. Bangladesh hasn't had a great time in Test cricket lately, however, they would look to put the past behind them and focus on capitalizing on a situation to put the opponent under pressure. In the batting department, Tamim Iqbal who missed the last series against India due to injury will open the batting for Visitors. He is coming to this game on the back of a great domestic season, where he scored a maiden triple century. He would look to carry on the good form in international games and score big inning.
Skipper Mominul Haque and Mahmudullah also had a great domestic season, both scored a century. The onus will be on this batting duo in the middle order in the absence of experienced Mushfiquir Rahim. Mahmudullah has been the leading scorer for Bangladesh in recent times; he scored 332 runs from the last 10 innings at an average of 36.88. He is a very good player of spin and the team would want him to hold the one batting end against the quality of Pakistani Spinner Yashir Shah. Najmul Hossain, Mohammad Mithun and Liton Das will be the other batsmen in the side.
Abu Jayed, Al-Amin Hossain and Rubel Hossain are likely to form the pace attack. Abu Jayed is in good form lately; picked 9 wickets from the last 4 games. He was also a pick of the Bangladeshi bowler in the series against India. Taijul Islam will lead the spin attack.
Key Players – Mahmudullah, Tamim Iqbal, Taijul Islam

The temperatures in Rawalpindi on Friday will vary from 14-17c with sunny and clear skies expected on each day. Usually, the venue offers a good track for batting.
The match will be played at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi. It will be the second international test match of the decade at this venue.
Out of the 9 test matched played at this venue, five games were won by bowling first and one time by a batting first team. 600 is the high score in an inning at this venue. The track is likely to assist Pacers during the first session of the day. So, we anticipate the team winning the toss would look to bowl first.
Pakistan were better than Bangladesh in the recent T20 series and the hosts will be hoping for a similar outcome in the Test game. Besides, they won their series against Sri Lanka in December whilst Bangladesh were on the end of two heavy defeats against India. Notably, Pakistan is undefeated against Bangladesh in test format.
Hence, the tourists have plenty of work to do if they are to bounce back from those disappointing defeats and although they have a stronger squad available to them this time, Pakistan is outright favourite to win this game.
