It was a wonderful return for ODI cricket to Karachi as the Pakistani team registered a convincing win in the game against Sri Lanka. The packed house at Karachi which has been denied international cricket for 10 years due to terror shouted their lungs out to support the home side in the game.
The hosts riding on their good batting form secured an easy win in the game as the second rung Sri Lankan team despite some fight back towards the end never really looked in a position to chase down that huge score. The Sri Lankan team has been having its problems with ODI cricket for more than two years and the same symptoms of top-order collapse and lack of discipline with the ball showed up in the last game. The side needs to regroup if they are to put up a stiff challenge against the opposition in the next game. The young side will need to play out of its skins to defeat the Pakistanis to level the series.

Sarfaraz Ahmed couldn’t have asked for a better start to a game in Karachi after 10 long years. His batsmen were brilliant in pacing their innings and the bowlers set up the win within the first ten overs. Going into the last game of the series he would want them to maintain the tempo and bag the series 2-0. All boxes were checked as far as batting is concerned in the last game. Iman-ul-Haq and Fakhar Zaman provided a good start to the side and Pakistan’s batting sensation scored a brilliant hundred.
There were good contributions from Haris Sohail and Iftikhar Ahmed. Having Sarfaraz Ahmed and Imad Wasim in the lower order adds to the depth of Pakistani batting and they would be looking to do well in the next game. Mohammad Amir and Usman Shinwari were brilliant with the ball in the last game especially the latter bagging a fifer. There was good support from Imad Wasim and Wahab Riaz who didn’t allow the Sri Lankans to settle down. Shadab Khan was a bit expensive and he would like to keep the line tight in the next game.

Lahiru Thirimanne has plenty of problems on his hands going into this game. His team played poorly in the last game both in terms of batting and bowling. The batting show from the top order was dismal in the game and this is something the skipper would need to work on as they play the next game. A win here would allow them to draw the series and this is something the skipper would be aiming for. Sri Lanka’s top five - Sadeera Samarawickrama, Danushka Gunathilaka, Avishka Fernando, Oshada Fernando and Lahiru Thirimanne contributed only 21 runs in the last game and the side would require better show from them in the next game.
Shehan Jayasuriya and Dasun Shanaka were brilliant with the bat with the latter missing out on a well-deserved hundred. The batting has to click for the side to win the upcoming game. Jayasuriya was economical with the ball and so was Lahiru Kumara but overall the Sri Lankan bowlers failed to pick wickets and apply pressure on the Pakistanis. Nuwan Pradeep and Isuru Udana failed to check their line and length. These two along with Wanindu Hasaranga will have to apply pressure on the batsmen to pick wickets and check the scoring rate.
The weather forecast is for a sunny day at Karachi on October 02 and this should cheer the fans as well as the players. The pitch was a good one to bat on in the last game and is expected to remain the same. Fast bowlers would get their initial assistance but a 300 plus score is surely on the cards in the game.
One of the best batting wickets in the world the National Stadium, Karachi has always been a favorite place to bat. The fast bowlers do get early assistance especially during the evening and spinners too get their turn and bounce but overall it is one of the best surfaces in the world to bat and score heavily.
The wicket at Karachi is always a good one to bat on as was seen in the last game. The ball tends to move towards the evening. The captain winning the toss would be looking to bat first on this wicket and put up a big score on the board.
It is the series decider and the Pakistani team would go into this game with confidence having done well in the last game. They batted well and where aggressive when it came to their bowling. The Sri Lankan side on the other hand had many issues in the game which need to be fixed if they are to win the next game. Their batsmen have to deliver for the team to do well. Pakistanis are looking in good form and would have the noisy crowds behind them which will make them favorites to win this game.
