It was a shame to see the first Test Match in Pakistani soil in close to 10 years being washed away by rain. A little over five sessions of play was possible in the last game. There wasn’t much of a moral victory for any of the sides but Sri Lankans would have felt good after putting a score of over 300 runs on a difficult surface.
Pakistani batsmen did well in the time they spent in the crease and would have been happy to have seen a good show from their main players in the game.
As the sides head into the next game they will hope to see full five days of cricket. It is a winner-takes-it-all scenario in the next game and we expect a good show from both the teams. Pakistan wouldn’t like to lose the first Test series at home in a decade while a victory for the Sri Lankans would do a world of good to their confidence given the poor run they have had over the last couple of years.

Azhar Ali would have been happy with the way his side batted in the last game. This would have provided some healing touch to the young skipper who was completely at sea during the recent tour of Australia. He would want his bowlers to come out with better effort in the next game after they failed to take advantage of a good pitch in the last game.
Shan Masood fell for naught in the last game and shall look to do well. His opening partner Abid Ali slammed a ton in the last game and looks in good form. Babar Azam is having a great time and scored yet another hundred in the last game. Azhar Ali, Haris Sohail, Asad Shafiq, and Mohammad Rizwan add depth to the batting and shall look to play well on a flat surface.
Mohammad Abbas and Shaheen Afridi bowled well in the last game and so did Naseem Shah. The trio will look to pick early wickets which they failed to do in the last game even though the pitch was offering assistance. The skipper would hope to see better efforts with the ball from Usman Shinwari in the next game.

Dimuth Karunaratne would have been relatively happy with the way his side played in the last game. His batsmen did well and stitched important partnerships in the game. He would be hoping for better efforts with the ball form his side after they managed to pick only 2 wickets in 70 overs. At the top Dimuth Karunaratne and Oshada Fernando looked in good touch.
In the middle order the Sri Lankan side had few sit backs in the last game and the likes of Kusal Mendis, Angelo Mathews, and Dinesh Chandimal will have to bat well. Dhananjaya de Silva looks good down the order after his hundred in the last game.
It is the bowling attack where the side seems to be struggling at the moment and injury to Kasun Rajitha has added to their problems. The skipper would rely on Vishwa Fernando and Lahiru Kumara to bowl well with the new ball. Dilruwan Perera and Dhananjaya de Silva will enjoy bowling on this surface where the ball is expected to turn sharply.

After the rain-marred 1st Test Match the weather predictions between December 19 and 23 look good. While there will be odd clouds over Karachi on the first two days of the game, the weather would be clear on the remaining days. The pitch is expected to be a typical Karachi track where batting would be good on the first two days and the spinners will dominate from Day 3 onward. Fast bowlers would enjoy bowling on the surface on the first two days with the cloud cover.
National Stadium, Karachi has always been a good batting surface where the ball comes on to the bat nicely. The flat track makes it easy for the batsmen. Spinners also get a good turn and bounce on this surface as the pitch starts wearing down. This venue has witnessed several high scoring Test Matches in the past.
It’s been more than a decade since the last Test Match was played at this venue. But in the last five games that have seen results here the side batting first has won all of them. Batting here in the 4th innings is a challenge and hence we expect the side winning the toss to bat first on this wicket.
The second Test match becomes a series decider after the first game was washed away due to rain. Both sides had their positives from the previous games and batted well.
Going into this game the hosts would be relatively confident given the kind of strength they have in their batting. Sri Lankan batting still doesn’t look settled and their bowling attack looks weak in the absence of injured Kasun Rajitha. It is a close call but Pakistan with home advantage and a better bowling attack shall start as favorites in the game.
