International cricket returns to Pakistani soil after a long gap. It will be the first ODI game at the National Stadium, Karachi after a gap of 10 years. The last one-two featured the two sides in that infamous series where Sri Lankan players were attacked by terrorists which brought international cricket on Pakistani soil to a halt. In the recent games between the two sides, Pakistan has dominated overwhelmingly and Sri Lankans who are going through a transition have found it hard to match the challenge.
Sri Lanka would go into this game with a young side which has very little in terms of experience after 11 players pulled out of the series due to security reasons. It will be a great opportunity for the youngsters to establish themselves on the big stage. The Pakistan team is likely to play hard cricket in front of their home crowds who would be noisy with international cricket resuming in the country.

After the dismal campaign in the World Cup that earned the side much criticism skipper, Sarfaraz Ahmed would be looking to make a good start to this series. He has few exciting young players in the side and would be looking to get the best out of them. With Sri Lanka having come with a relatively inexperienced side he would be looking to exploit it to his advantage.
At the top of the order, the side would need good start from Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq. Babar Azam is in great form and will look to anchor the inning in the game. The middle-order looks decent with Asif Ali, Haris Sohail and Sarfaraz in the squad. Imad Wasim and Shadab Khan have good hitting abilities towards the end and shall need to end the innings on a right note.
The bowling attack is very strong with Mohammad Amir likely to share the new ball with the young speed sensation Mohammad Hasnain. Wahab Riaz would be looking to use all his experience as first change bowler. With Shadab Khan and Imad Wasim in the spin attack, the side has a balanced bowling unit going into this game.
Lahiru Thirimanne the Sri Lankan captain has a big challenge on his hand as he leads an inexperienced side against the Pakistanis. With most of the big names opting out of this tour, he would have to marshal his resources cleverly against a formidable opponent. He would want his players to play freely and not be intimidated by the occasion.
Lahiru Thirimanne and Avishka Fernando will need to provide a good start to the side being the most experienced players in the squad.
The middle-order has few exciting players in Danushka Gunathilaka, Shehan Jayasuriya and Oshada Fernando and they will look to make this opportunity count. Isuru Udana with his hitting abilities will have to play a stellar role in the game.
The bowling attack is inexperienced and a lot would depend on how Kasun Rajitha and Lahiru Kumara bowl in the game using their experience. Lakshan Sandakan will have to provide good support to them along with all-rounders Udana and Jayasuriya.
The weather would be cloudy and humid at Karachi on September 27. There may be slight showers during the course of the game. The track would be a typical Karachi flatbed where the ball is expected to come on to the bat nicely. Bowlers will need to be extremely disciplined on this surface. A score of 320 runs plus is on the cards in the first innings.
National Stadium, Karachi has seen several high scoring games. The flat pitch and the lightning-fast outfield make it a great venue for the batsmen. The ball comes on to the bat nicely and allows batsmen to play their strokes standing up. Spinners have done well at this venue and fast bowlers enjoy bowling here with the old ball.
It is a high scoring ground and most teams have preferred to bat first and put a big score on the board. While the possibility of rains is a likely factor for the captains at the toss the flat nature of the surface would definitely play into their minds. The team winning the toss is likely to bat first on this wicket.
It is going to be an exciting evening for the fans at Karachi and other parts of Pakistan. The home side has promising players in their ranks and in these conditions, the players are likely to excel. Sri Lankan team, on the other hand, has been through a bad patch and hasn’t brought in their first-choice squad. The Pakistanis would have the fans cheering for them and having a strong batting line-up would make them favorites in this game.
