Pakistan to win this game!

It was a shame to see the first ODI of the three-match series being washed away by rain. It took 10 years of wait for the crowds at Karachi to see their team play in front of their eyes but the weather gods had other ideas. The 2nd match of the series to be hosted on the same ground has now been deferred by a day due to bad weather forecast. On the cricketing front, it would be a big challenge for Sri Lanka as they haven’t come with their best side and would find it hard to beat Pakistan with the Karachi crowd behind the home side. The recent record for the Sri Lankan team against Pakistan has been very poor and this is something the side would be aware of. The Pakistanis have seen the first game of the series being washed away would come hard at their opponents. It would be interesting to see how the young Sri Lankan side copes up with the pressure when they take on Pakistan.

Sarfaraz Ahmed’s side would have felt let down by the rains in the 1st ODI which had a lot of sentimental value for the hosts. The side which has several young players coming in after the World Cup debacle would be eager to dominate in the next game. Sarfaraz would be happy with the quality mix of players under his disposal and look to win the game and take lead in the series. Batting is the strong point for the Pakistani side with openers Imam-ul-Haq and Fakhar Zaman having good hitting abilities. At No. 3 Babar Azam is surely one of the best batsmen in the world and he would be looking to dominate in the game. The side would expect a good show from Haris Sohail, Asif Ali and Sarfaraz in the middle order. Shadab Khan and Imad Wasim can hit the ball hard and would come handy in the latter part of the innings. Mohammad Amir will have to use his skills and experienced to pick wickets with the new ball in company of the young sensation Mohammad Hasnain. Wahab Riaz the veteran of many battles looks in good form to trouble the Sri Lankans. The side would like to see tight spells from Imad Wasim and Shadab Khan in the game to pile pressure on the young Lankan team.
Usman Khan, Mohammad Amir, SI Wasim, Babar Azam, F Zaman, Haris Sohail, Sarfraz Ahmed, Iftikhar Ahmed, Imam-ul-Haq, Shadab Khan, Wahab Riaz
Lahiru Thirimanne would be aware of the fact that he is leading a second rung side in the game. He would be looking to inspire these players to rise up to the challenge and not be overwhelmed by the large crowds at Karachi. Pakistan has a habit of making mistakes and this is something the skipper would be looking to exploit in the next game. Avishka Fernando and Lahiru Thirimanne form a strong opening pair for the side and they will have to hold on to their wickets. The middle-order is full of young blood and the likes of Shehan Jayasuriya, Oshada Fernando and Danushka Gunathilaka who have the ability to score quickly. Isuru Udana’s hitting skills would be of good use to the side if he is provided with a platform to launch an attack.
It is in the bowling department where the Sri Lankans are short of experience and they will need to bowl extremely well to win this game. Lahiru Kumara and Kasun Rajitha must use all their experience to guide the young bowling attack. Lakshan Sandakan and Isuru Udana have good skills and they will have to make the most out of it in the next game.
Lahiru Kumara, Avishka Fernando, Shehan Jayasuriya, Danushka Gunathilaka, Dasun Shanaka, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Wanidu Hasaranga, Nuwan Pradeep, Isuru Udana, Oshada Fernando, Lahiru Thirimanne
The weather forecast is for a sunny day at Karachi on September 30th and this would surely bring smiles on the faces of the players. The pitch with the moisture that it has absorbed may not be the typical Karachi surface that is a paradise for batting but one where fast bowlers would enjoy bowling. However, 320 plus runs would be on cards on this pitch.
National Stadium, Karachi is a paradise for batsmen where the ball comes on to the bat nicely and the batsmen always have their way. Spinners have done well here in the past but they would require a dry surface to get the turn and bounce. Fast bowlers have done well at his venue when the wicket has had some moisture.
It is a day night game and Karachi track has a history of assisting the bowlers under lights. The pitch should be good for playing strokes right from the start and the side that wins the toss is likely to bat first here.
The second game of the series assumes significance with the first game being washed way due to rain. Sri Lankan team has been through a lot of struggles in the last two years and with some of their best players not in the squad they look weak in comparison to the hosts. Pakistan has played well against Sri Lanka in the last two series and with the crowd support behind them, they would be a force to reckon with. The hosts would start as overwhelming favorites to win this one.
