Punjab Kings will be looking to end their losing streak when they take on Mumbai Indians in the 17th match of 2021 Indian Premier League at Chennai.
In their previous game, Punjab Kings produced another dismal batting performance to lose their third game on the bounce. With this result, Punjab Kings are lying at the bottom of the league table after securing only two points from four matches played in the competition.
On the other hand, Mumbai Indians will need to address their middle-order woes as they lost their previous match against Delhi Capitals. The team management will be hoping that the side can make amends for their mistakes made in the previous fixture.

After doing much with the bat, Nicholas Pooran is expected to be dropped from the XI. England’s Dawid Malan is expected to make his first appearance for the side this season. Given the surface might be helpful, Ravi Bishnoi might come in place of Murugan Ashwin.
In the batting department, the onus will be on the likes of Lokesh Rahul, Mayank Agarwal and Dawid Malan to put in notable scores for the side.
Despite perishing for a low score, Punjab will be relying heavily on captain Lokesh Rahul to lead the way with bat. West Indies batsman Chris Gayle will under the spotlight after failing to make an impression in the previous game.
Deepak Hooda, Moises Henriques and Shahrukh Khan put in crucial scores for Punjab Kings in the previous game.
In the bowling department, the onus will be on the likes of Arshdeep Singh, Murugan Ashwin and Mohammad Shami to deliver wickets in the initial Powerplay overs. Playing his first game, left-arm spinner Fabian Allen was the best bowler on display against Hyderabad and finished with figures of 1 for 22 in his four overs.

Lack of contributions from the all-rounder trio of Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya and Kieron Pollard will be major concern for Mumbai Indians going into this game. The team management will be hoping that likes of Pollard and Pandya brothers can make a strong comeback in this contest.
Against Delhi Capitals, middle-order once again crumbled after Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav got the side off to a decent. From being placed in a decent position at 76 for 2 to reeling at 84 for 6 after 11.5 overs, Mumbai lost momentum in the middle overs of the innings.
Ishan Kishan and Jayant Yadav showed some grit and determination to see Mumbai Indians post 137 runs for the loss of nine wickets in their full quota of overs.
In the batting department, the side will be depending heavily on the likes of Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan to make notable contributions with the bat against Punjab Kings.
In the bowling department, the side will be relying on the pacer Trent Boult to create early inroads with the new-ball. Jayant Yadav had a good outing with bat and ball in his first game for Mumbai this season. Jasprit Bumrah and Rahul Chahar will be keen to continue their excellent form in this game.

The wicket prepared for the game will be on the slower side with bowlers getting assistance from the surface. The forecast for the game is clear skies.
In the previous two meetings between the two teams last year, Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians managed to win one-game apiece.
Given the two-paced wicket expected in Chennai, the side that wins the toss, would be keen to bowl first and restrict the opposition to less than 140 runs.
Based on current form, Mumbai Indians certainly looked better placed to win their game against Punjab Kings.
With batting lineup showing inconsistency, Punjab Kings will need to adjust to the conditions and showed flexibility in terms of batting on this surface. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians will feel that they have bowling resources to dismantle Punjab’s vulnerable batting lineup.
Expect Mumbai Indians to cruise to a comfortable win over Punjab Kings at Chennai.
