In the match 14th of the IPL 2021, KL Rahul’s Punjab Kings will take on David Warner’s Sunrisers Hyderabad at Chennai on Wednesday. Punjab Kings despite playing some good cricket managed to win just one out of their earlier three games. Now, with just two points, PK currently placed at 7th place on the point table. For Punjab Kings, top order batting looks very formidable, however, bowlers need to work on their line and length, they need to be smart especially when playing on batting-friendly pitches. KL Rahul and co will be hoping to rectify the mistakes and get back in winning ways.
On the other contrary, Sunrisers Hyderabad one of the most consistent teams in IPL has an awful start to the IPL 2021 as they are winless after playing three games in the ongoing season. Middle-order batting has been the biggest worry for SRH as the player in the domestic circuit failed to perform under pressure situation and lost a couple of matches which was supposed to be an easy win. On the positive note, top-order batsmen are in good form and they would be hoping to get more contribution from other player and break the losing streak.

Punjab Kings would be upset following their efforts in the last two games. They got a good start in the season and won their first game in a thrilling encounter against RR, however in the next two games opposite CSK and Delhi Captial, the team failed to perform in batting and bowling respectively. However, Punjab got one of the most successful opening pair of KL Rahul and M Agarwal. The batting duo scored the bulk of runs for the side and had plenty of good partnerships. The winner of orange-cap in the previous season, KL Rahul, once again looking in great touch and already scored two 50+ from three matches. Rahul scored 157 runs from the last 3 games at an average of 52.33. Once again the onus will be on the skipper to lead from the front and do the job in batting. M Agarwal is also back in grove with 36 balls 69 against Delhi Capitals and will be hoping to carry on the good form.
In the middle-order, D Hooda is having his best season of IPL as the spin all-rounder scoring with a strike rate of 171 with 96 runs from the last 3 games. N Pooran who is known for hitting bix sixes had a poor run so far as he was managed to score just 9 runs from three games. He is a big match-winner and his good form will be very vital for Kings. On the bowling front, the Punjab franchise got some serious pace attack with the likes of M Shami, J Richardson and Meredith in the ranks. But pace trio needs to bowl with discipline and restrict the flow of runs. A Singh was impressive in earlier games and picked wickets at a crucial juncture.

Sunrisers Hyderabad has played consistently good cricket in the last few years and they have been one of the toughest team to beat. However, the Hyderabad based franchise had an unlikable start to the IPL 2021 as after losing the first three matches they are currently at the bottom of the table. Especially, Warner and co would be more hurt after losing in a couple of easy chases against MI and RCB. They did make four changes in the last game however, it didn’t work in SRH favour. In batting, Warner and Bairstow looked formidable as always and they are scoring with a great strike rate. Notably, Warner is the only batsman who has scored 500+ run for consecutive four years. In the previous year as well, with 548 runs, Warner was the highest run-scorer for SRH and third-best batsman of the previous edition. Warner and Bairstow is the most destructive opening pair in IPL and the biggest threat for any opponent. J Bairstow is the leading scorer for SRH with 110 runs from 3 games.
SRH middle-order looks very feeble without the services of Kiwis great Kane Willamson as he missed out on initial games due to injury. Manish Pandey, V Shankar, A Samad need to play with the responsibility to make sure the team gets over the line. In the bowling, usually, SRH bowling attack is one of the best but the pace trio of B Kumar, S Sharma and Natrajan looked ordinary and failed to pick wickets. Remarkably, Bhuvi picked 18 wickets against KP from the last 11 matches. Rashid Khan, one of the ICC top-ranked T20I bowlers will lead the spin department. Rashid Khan is a big match-winner and certainly a player to watch out for in any contest. He picked 16 wickets last year and was SRH leading and most dependable bowler. In the previous three games, Rashid bowled with an economy of just 5.33.

The weather forecast in Chennai on Wednesday is mostly sunny and very warm. It is expected to be very humid. As we saw in the first game at this venue, the track at Chennai stadium tends to be good for both batting and bowling. However, the spinners are likely to get more help from the track than the pacers. 246 is the highest first inning score at this venue and 160 is the average first inning score.
The match will be played at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
Chepauk has been batting first track this season as five out of six games this season were won by batting first team. The records are strongly in favour of batting first team and hence both the team will look to bat first after winning the toss and score good first-inning runs.
Sunrisers Hyderabad is a very formidable side despite losing the first three games and they got some serious firepower in the rank. Besides, they have played few matches at this venue this season so SRH is better aware of playing condition than Punjab Kings who played earlier games in Mumbai. Statistically as well, SRH holds very good records playing opposite PK. Hence, SRH is likely to break the losing streak and get the first win of the season.
We predict Sunrisers Hyderabad will win this match.
