This is Paarl Rocks’ third home game. Though they lost the previous game played here against Tshwane Spartans, PR won their initial game here against Cape Town Blitz with a bonus point, as they defeated CTB by 86 runs. Against Spartans, the team’s weakness in bowling unit was exposed as they failed to defend 185 runs.
Jozi Stars played two games against Nelson Mandela Bay Giants and two against Cape Town Blitz and lost all the games. They failed to chase three times in a row and then against Bay Giants, their batsmen were bundled out for just 108 runs which NMBG chased down comfortably. Both the teams have their own weaknesses but Jozi Starts would be under tremendous pressure to get the monkey off the shoulders and open the accounts.

Batting first at Boland Park, the team to post a total of 170 runs. Paarl Rocks bowlers destroyed Cape Town Blitz’s batting thanks to Shamsi (3 for 16), Viljoen (2 for 9), Fortuin (2 for 13).
Their second match against Durban Heat was abandoned without a ball bowled. In the second home game against Tshwane Spartans, Paarl Rocks batsmen put up a very good total of 185 runs batting first, powered by James Vince (53 balls 86). But the Spartans batsmen made the target look below par as they chased it down with 8 wickets in hands in 5 balls the spare. Shamsi and Mungroo were got a wicket each, but together they conceded 83 runs in their 8 overs.
Fortuin was the only economical bowler with the figure of 4 overs 0 wickets for 27 runs. The defending champions are in deep trouble right now as they are yet open their account. With 0 wins in 4 matches, they are unbelievably placed at the bottom of the points table. JS failed to chase on three occasions in a row. In their first game, it was a difficult target of 214, though, they came within 15 runs of winning the game thanks to Hendricks’ 53 balls 80 and Bavuma’s 15 balls 38. Against NMBG in the second game, they again failed to chase 168 despite Hendricks’ 62 and Bavuma’s 33.
Surprisingly, they had five wickets in hands at the end of 20 overs but they lost by 24 runs. In the away game with Cape Town Blitz, the opponents once again put up a heavy score of 183 runs, which the Stars failed to chase once again. Coetzee took 2 wickets, but he was expensive with 42 runs. Phangiso took 1 wicket conceding just 17 runs from his 3 overs. Bavuma scored a half-century (42 balls 62) but he lacked support from his fellow batsmen, eventually, they were all out for 126 runs in 16.2 overs. At Cape Town, they faced their third defeat while chasing 184 runs, as their batsmen were bowled out at 126 runs in 16.2 overs.
The skipper made a half-century but no other batsmen supported him. In the previous game, they did not receive a different outcome after opting to bat first. It was a complete failure of the batting unit except for Bavuma who made cautious 27 runs off 31 balls to enable the JS team’s total cross 100. However, NMBG comfortably chased the modest target of 109 in just 9.1 overs. It would be very difficult to bounce back from here for Jozi Stars. Rassie van der Dussen (346 runs in last 10 innings) is the top-scorer for Jozi Stars followed by Hendricks (306 runs in the last 10 innings). Duanne Olivier is the strike bowler with 13 wickets in the last 8 games but he needs to work on his economy rate.

Losing four matches in a row is not a very good situation to be in for a team and they need to win quite a few games from the remaining ones to advance the next stage in the tournament. Despite good batting display, they kept on losing the matches. They will be playing against the hosts under pressure.

The side is yet to be fully tested against good opponents, but at the moment, Jozi Stars look feeble against Paarl Rocks. Also, the home advantage may go in favor of Paarl Rocks. Our prediction is that Paarl Rocks will defeat Jozi Stars.
