The 7th game of the BBL 2019-20 would see the Perth Scorchers take on Melbourne Renegades at their home ground. Both sides have lost their season openers which have put pressure on them. They will need to win the next game to gain confidence for the rest of the season. While it was an ordinary performance on part of the Scorchers in their first game the Renegades lost a close game due to some poor bowling towards the end.
The Perth Scorchers will take heart from the fact that they have an incredible record against the Melbourne Renegades. In the ten games between the two sides, the Scorchers have finished on the right side of the finishing line on eight occasions. The Renegades will need to get over this psychological hurdle as they play the next game for the season.

Mitchell Marsh would want to put behind the poor start they got in the tournament. In the first game against the Sydney Sixers, the side went down by 8 wickets. It was an extremely poor effort with the bat that led to their downfall. As the side now plays at home, Marsh would be looking to make the best use of the conditions and win the game. Apart from Mitchell Marsh and Cameron Green other batsmen failed in the last game. The side will need its openers Josh Inglis and Liam Livingstone to provide the side with a good start.
Cameron Bancroft and Aston Turner will also need to get going for the side to win the next game. With Marsh holding the lower order together batting looks good. Apart from Chris Jordan other bowlers had a bad day at the office in the last game. The likes of Aston Agar and Jhye Richardson will need to do well with the new ball in the next game. Matthew Kelly and Fawad Ahmed will need to keep the scoring rate under check in the next game after failing in the first game.
AJ Turner, Joel Paris, Chris Jordan, Jhye Richardson, Ashton Agar, Fawad Ahmed, Liam Livingstone, Cameron Green, Josh Inglis, Mitchell Marsh, CT Bancroft
The Renegades also didn’t have the perfect start to the season as they lost against Sydney Thunder by six wickets in their opening game. Skipper Aaron Finch would have been very upset after his bowlers failed to defend a big score. Going into the next game he will expect his fast bowlers to make good use of the conditions at Perth.
The batting line-up looks in good form as the Top 3 comprising of Sam Harper, Finch and Shaun Marsh played well in the last game and the side would expect a similar show from them. Lower down the order Tom Cooper, Daniel Christian and Beau Webster add strength to the batting for the side.
Kane Richardson and Richard Gleeson will have to do well in the new ball going into the next game. Harry Gurney bowled well in the last game. Christian, Jack Wildermuth and Cameron Boyce will need to bowl tighter lines which they failed to do in the last game resulting in the loss.
Aaron Finch, TLW Cooper, JD Wildermuth, Sam Harper, Shaun Marsh, KW Richardson, Harry Gurney, Cameron Boyce, Richard Gleeson, BJ Webster, DT Christian
The skies would be clear over Perth during the next game on December 21. The pitch is likely to offer some assistance to the fast bowlers with the new ball as has been the case in the past. Ball would come onto the bat nicely which will allow batsmen to play their strokes and we expect a high scoring encounter in the game.
The track at WACA Perth has always been one of the best surfaces for the fast bowlers who extract pace and bounces off the surface. Batsmen who get their eyes in also do well on this track as they can play their strokes. Spinners have struggled on this surface and need to bowl in the right areas to get their rewards.
There would be early assistance for the fast bowlers on a faced paced track at Perth and batting is likely to become easy as the game progresses. Both the sides would look to make early use of the conditions and are likely to put the opposition into bat after winning the toss.
It is expected to be a very good contest between Perth Scorchers and Melbourne Renegades as the teams match well up to each other. Both the sides are under pressure having lost their first games of the season. The side that is able to negotiate pace and bounce on the surface is likely to emerge as the winner.
While it is a tough call to make Perth Scorchers would start as favorites as they have the advantage of playing in their home conditions and shall have the crowds behind them.
