The competition is tightening at the Big Bash League 2019-20 as we near the playoff stage of the season. The next game at the Perth Stadium will be a very important one for the hosts Perth Scorchers. They have lost the last two games and dropped down on the points table. One more loss would create problems for the side.
Sydney Thunder, on the other hand, is coming into this game with a win behind their back and this will make them confident when they take the field. Perth Scorchers have had a good record playing at home and this is one venue where the visiting teams have always found it hard to adjust to the conditions. Sydney Thunder hasn’t played their best cricket so far and has a middle-order that has looked shaky for most parts of the tournament. With the stakes high for both sides we expect this contest to be a good one in front of the packed house at the WACA ground.

Mitchell Marsh would be upset with his side losing stream midway through the season. They lost the last two games against Melbourne Stars which has created additional pressure on the squad. Their failure to chase down 142 runs in the last game has raised several questions on their batting. The side would be looking to put that behind and win the next game at home convincingly. They would draw strength from the form of their openers Josh Inglis and Liam Livingstone who look in good form. Mitchell Marsh has had a good season on the personal front.
The team would want Cameron Bancroft to do well as he hasn’t been consistent so far. Down the order, the likes of Tim David, Cameron Green and Kurtis Patterson add strength to the bowling attack. Jhye Richardson and Chris Jordan have been in good form with the ball and this would add to the confidence of the side. Matthew Kelly’s bowling in the last game would add to their confidence levels. They would need good support from Fawad Ahmed and Marsh who will have to dry down the scoring rate in the middle overs.

They hadn’t started well in the season but Callum Ferguson would be happy with the way his side has played positive cricket in the last few games. They won against the Sydney Sixers in the last game by 4 runs under the DLS method. Ferguson would want to take that confidence into the next game and press for a win which will brighten their chances of getting into the playoffs. Their openers Alex Hales and Usman Khawaja look in good form and this is a big plus for the side.
The problem has been in the middle order where both Daniel Sams and Ferguson have been inconsistent. Down the order they have good strength in their batting as Chris Morris, Alex Ross and Jay Lenton are known to be good hitters of the ball.
Their bowling attack is in good form at the moment and it was an incredibly strong performance from the team in the last game against the Sixers. Chris Morris and Daniel Sams impressed in the game. It was a good show from Gurinder Sandhu in his first game of the season. Nathan McAndrew and Brendan Doggett will have to provide good support to the main bowlers in the next game.

It will be a good day for cricket at Perth on January 20 where the skies would be clear. The pitch so far has played well in the tournament. It has been one of those tracks where batsmen can hit through the line and has seen high scoring games. Fast bowlers have got good assistance from the surface and a score of 170 runs would be a fighting total
Perth Cricket Stadium is known to be the best fast bowling wicket in the world and it does offer good assistance to the fast bowlers. Batsmen can also play on the up as the ball hits the bat hard. There isn’t much on this ground for the spinners with the short boundaries making it tough for them.
In the five games that have been played at this venue so far in the season the side batting first has emerged victorious on four occasions. The pitch is playing well in both the innings. The side winning the toss in the next game would in all likelihood bat first and want to put up a big score on the board.
The stakes are high for the Perth Scorchers in the game. One more loss can create doubts in the minds of the players in the most important phase of the tournament after two consecutive losses. Sydney Thunder comes here with a win but the side has several issues as far as the form of their middle order is concerned.
It is a close call between the two sides but the Scorchers playing at home shall start slightly ahead in the game.
