Two of the stronger sides in the white-ball cricket - Australia and South Africa, would be locking horns in 3-match T20Is, the first of which would be played at the New Wanderers stadium.
Australia, led by Aaron Finch, last played T20Is against Pakistan which they won by a margin of 2-0 and would be backed to exhibit a similar show in the upcoming tour. The likes of David Warner, Aaron Finch, and Steve Smith have been in a good form with the bat in the shorter formats and would be expected to lead the batting charts for the tourists in the first T20I.
South Africa, on the other hand, would be coming into this series on the back of a defeat at the hands of England and will be backing themselves to rectify their mistakes in the forthcoming T20s. Skipper Quinton de Kock led the side up front in the last series, and alongside du Plessis and Heinrich Klaasen would carry the burden of getting the Protea to a much-coveted win over the Aussies.

The duo of Rassie van der Dussen and Quinton de Kock proved fruitful for the Protea in the 3-match T20Is versus Englishmen wherein they averaged 43.67 and 42.50 respectively. With Faf du Plessis at the top-order, one shouldn’t be surprised to see the RSA team scoring a belter of runs in a span of few overs.
Heinrich Klaasen is another top prospect who notched a half-century in the lately finished T20I against England. With Klaasen and David Miller in the middle-order, not only there’s a left-hand right-hand combination, but, a chance for South Africa to get those extra 20-30 runs which could put them in a winning spot.
In the bowling department, Lungi Ngidi and Andile Phehlukwayo can be a menace to the Aussie batsmen. The duo scalped 13 wickets in total in the recently concluded T20Is against England and with their current form, it shouldn’t be a surprise if they manage to tear through the rival top-order at Johannesburg.
Dale Steyn with his outswingers can tempt the batsmen into giving up their wickets. Left-arm spinner Tabraiz Shamsi was yet again at his economical best in the concluded matches, and could surely be expected to affect the breakthroughs in the middle overs.

Batting trio of David Warner, Aaron Finch, and Steve Smith will carry the onus of setting a winning foundation for their side against the Protea attack. Warner, in particular, would have the attention onto himself, as he put up top-notch exhibitions during the home T20Is against Pakistan. Alex Carey and Matthew Wade were at their explosive best with the bat in BBL 2019-20 and alongside Mitchell Marsh will control the big-hitting ability in the middle-order.
Bowling wise, pacers Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins will be looking to scalp the early dismissals. Starc being a swing specialist can wreak havoc with his inswinging deliveries to the right-hande batsmen. Kane Richardson and Sean Abbott were effective in the BBL 2019-20 and will be a force to reckon with amidst the conditions of Wanderers. Spinner Adam Zampa put up a decent show with his leg-breaks and googlies in the tour of India and with Ashton Agar in the armory, the duo would be anticipated to affect the breakthroughs in the middle-overs.

Chances of rain are being depicted in the second innings. Moreover, there will be showers a few hours prior to the commencement of the game. Overall, there will be damp conditions throughout offering help to the bowlers in getting the desired swing and seam.
The wicket at Wanderers is usually a batters paradise with 169 as the average 1st innings total. However, the rains and overcast conditions might restrict the scoring ability and thus, one can expect 170 as a par total on this occasion.
The toss winning team should look to capitalize early on in the coming game and opt to bat first in the coming T20. DLS method is likely to come into the play at the latter half offering a revised target for the chasing team, which in this case could be a disadvantage if plenty of runs are put on board.
Both South Africa and Australia possess immense talent underneath and would be expected to go full throttle in the upcoming T20 at the Wanderers stadium. However, one can bank on Australia to be the dominant side in contention. The tourists have a star-studded attack with Aaron Finch, David Warner, Steve Smith, and Mitchell Starc to name a few. While it is the reliance on one or more players in the case of South Africa, the Aussies have got the job distributed amongst themselves to get them past the winning limits.
