South Africa to win this game!

The last game at SuperSport Park, Centurion was one of several contrasts. For South Africa, it was a good end to what had been a horrible year for them. As for England, it was a sad end to the year where they became the World Champions.
With the year left behind both the side would focus on the second Test Match at Newlands, Cape Town.
South Africa can take the Test series if they win the next game while England will have to fight it hard to win this one and level it going into the third Test Match. The problem for England is their poor record at this venue. They haven’t won a game there since South Africa was readmitted into cricket nearly three decades back. The kind of form their batsmen showed in the last game would also be worrying for the skipper and the side hasn’t played well abroad. The two sides are however blessed with quality players and it does up the stakes for a competitive game.

Faf du Plessis would pray the New Year starts the way the previous year ended. Win in the last game was much required by the side after the horrible year they had in 2019. With the bowlers having their tails up and the batsmen also doing well the skipper would look forward to continuing with their good record against England at Newlands.
Openers Aiden Markram and Dean Elgar may get another chance to prove their skills after the poor show in the last game and the team would expect a good show from them. Faf du Plessis, Zubayr Hamza and Rassie van der Dussen did well in the middle order but they would look to convert their starts into bigger scores.
Quinton de Kock’s knock was what earned the win for the side and along with Vernon Philander and Dwaine Pretorius he makes the batting look strong.
It was after a long time that the South African fast bowlers made their opponents hop and dance on the track. Kagiso Rabada was at his fiery best and found good support from Philander and Anrich Nortje. The pace trio will look to do so going into the next game. In Keshav Maharaj they have a good spinner and he has been taking giant strides in the last few games.

It was another instance of a first-innings batting collapse away from home that cost England the game. Skipper Joe Root would be upset with the same script playing over and over again. Going into the next game the side needs to win it to keep hits hope alive. With their opponents having regained their confidence, Root would know that the battle won’t be easy.
England openers did well in the 2nd innings in the last game and the team would expect a good show from Dominic Sibley and Rory Burns. What the side would need is bigger contributions from the likes of Joe Root, Joe Denly and Ben Stokes. Jonny Bairstow, Jos Buttler, and Sam Curran. They bring a lot of talent but they need to play to the merit of the ball in the next game and not throw away their wickets.
Stuart Broad and Jofra Archer did well in the last game with Archer getting it right in the second innings. They will have to continue with their form in the next game.
Jimmy Anderson may be the bowler to watch out in the seaming and swinging conditions at Newlands. Curran and Stokes who had an ordinary outing with the ball in the previous game have to do well in the next one.

The weather would be clear on Day 1 of the game; however, there is a forecast for rains and overcast skies in the following days. Newlands has always been a good venue for the bowlers and batsmen have to play their strokes cautiously. It will be important for the batsmen to play the ball according to its merit on this surface.
Newland, Cape Town has always been a paradise for the fast bowlers. There is grass cover on the track and this allows them to generate bounce and moment. Batsmen who build their innings have done well at this venue. Like most South African tracks, there isn’t much in for the spinner on this surface.

There have been rains in Cape Town over the last few days and wicket would have a lot of moisture. There would be some movement for the fast bowlers in the first session of play. The side that wins the toss would like to take advantage of this by inviting the opposition to bat first.
The second Test match has turned into a series saving one for England who had come into this Test series looking favorites. Their poor show in the last game would have definitely hurt the confidence in the dressing room. The fact that it allowed the South African side to regain their confidence after the poor show over the last six months may lead to the undoing of the visitors. The hosts have their main strength, their fast bowlers doing well and this would make them favorites to win the game.
