It looks like hosts are stuck in a nightmare. South Africa hosted England for a T20I series, the first time after the pandemic. England didn’t give a single chance to SA and whitewashed them in the process. World number 1 T20I batsman David Malan showed hosts why he deserved the first spot. His 55 in the second T20I and an unbeaten 99 in the third T20I helped England win the series. He put a world-record partnership with Jos Butler to register a nine-wicket win against the lacklustre hosts.
Starting from the beginning, SA couldn’t find a solution to restrict England. The poor performance from the bowling department cost them the series. The Rabada-Ngidi-Nortje trio could only pick 6 wickets in the 3 games. Quinton de Kock and Faf du Plessis were the only standouts from the T20 series. Though the stars were not there with SA in the last week, the good thing to look after for them is that they have not lost a series they played this year. They drew the ODI series against England and whitewashed Australia 3-0 in the second.
England, on the other hand, has won 4 games out of 9 ODIs they played this year. They drew the series against SA, followed by a 2-1 win against Ireland, and a 2-1 loss against the visiting Australia. In fact, Ireland’s chase of 328 against England showed the uncertainty in their form. Keeping this in mind, South Africa will try to give it back to England after a humiliating loss in the T20I series.

The ODI series against England will be South Africa’s first 50-over series after the pandemic. The last time they played an ODI was on 7th March against Australia where they emerged victoriously. They have not lost a series at home this year. CSA has opted to go with the same 24-men squad from the T20I series.
Janneman Malan will be an easy pick for 1st ODI to start the innings with Quinton de Kock. He had an impressive series against Australia with a century on the board. JT Smuts who replaced Temba Bavuma will look forward to continuing his good run with the bat. His 84 and 41 against Australia will make it difficult for Bavuma to find his spot in the team. Henrich Klassen will be leading the middle order for SA with Kyle Verreynne or Faf du Plessis. Klassen was a find from the series against Australia where he scored a century and 2 half-centuries.
David Miller will be looking forward to showing his class after sitting most of the IPL and the T20 series against England on the bench. CSA hasn’t cleared the air with the selection of Andie Phehlukwayo. Though he was with the squad for the T20I series, he couldn’t play a single game. In his absence, SA might try George Linde who did not fail to impress in his debut T20I series.
Keshav Maharaj will face tough opposition from Tabrez Shamsi in the spin department. Maharaj who played all games this year has failed to impress the hosts yet. Kagiso Rabada will be making a comeback after missing the last ODI series because of injuries. He will be getting support from Ngidi or Nortje.

After a dominating performance in the T20 series, England is heading to the ODIs under the absence of Jofra Archer, Sam Curran, and Ben Stokes. ECB opted to rest them after their long stint at IPL. With this, there will be at least three changes from the squad that played the 3rd T20I.
Jason Roy has all the backing from Captain Eoin Morgan to start the innings. He scored 24 runs only in the last series against Australia and his last fifty comes a year back against Australia in the World Cup 2019. Joe Root has joined the squad after missing the T20 series. He will be a clear choice to stabilize the innings at the number 3 spot. If the top-order combination fails, England will still have the support from Morgan and Jos Butler in the middle order.
Sam Billings and Chris Woakes have a free pass in this series to carry the all-rounder department under the absence of Stokes and Curran. Adil Rashid and Mark Wood will team up with Tom Curran who has been a regular in the team this year. Under the absence of biggies, England will look to continue their dominance against the hosts. Though this year’s record has been poor, they have huge confidence entering the series.
