After comprehensive performances in the lately finished Test series, England would now lock horns with the Protea in the shorter formats, starting from the 3-match ODIs the first of which would be played at Newlands. Since 2019, the Eoin Morgan-captained side has been on a roll in the 50-over format to the extent of bagging the much-coveted World Cup title, and now putting up top-notch exhibitions in the red-ball contests. With their current form, it shouldn’t come as a surprise to many if the tourists manage to squash the Protea in the ODIs and subsequently the T20Is.
Meanwhile, South Africa would look to deploy whatever measures necessary in order to avoid a defeat at Newlands. They would certainly be low on confidence as they suffered a humiliating 3-1 defeat in the Tests amidst the home conditions and to add to it, the Protea unit would be missing out the services of Faf du Plessis and thus, the captaincy has now fallen into the hands of wicket-keeper batsman Quinton de Kock. Moreover, the hosts are comparatively weaker in terms of batting and bowling strengths, and only a herculean effort from their end could save a game at Newlands.

Skipper Quinton de Kock has been assigned additional responsibilities for the upcoming one-dayers and would look to lead by example, starting from the game at Cape Town. The southpaw has aggregated 4.907 runs and averages 45.12 in 115 ODIs played so far and will be hoping to get past the 5,000 run-mark in the upcoming duels. Reeza Hendricks and Temba Bavuma were in good form in the Mzansi T20 matches and will look to extend their performances in the 50-overs. In the middle order, all eyes would be on David Miller, as he is someone who could get that belter of runs in a matter of few deliveries. All-rounder Andile Phehlukwayo has been an exciting prospect since his arrival into the international circuit and could play a crucial role when under crunch situations.
In the bowling department, pacer Lungi Ngidi would be expected to spearhead the attack for South Africa. He has been effective in scalping wickets in the power plays, and along with left-arm pacer, Beuran Hendricks would look to give an early edge to his side in the coming feud.

The top-order trio of Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, and Joe Root was in terrific touch in the World Cup events. Considering the trio possesses exceptional hitting abilities, the onus would be on
them for getting the chunk of runs on board. David Malan hasn't played any ODI but he could still be considered as a vital cog, considering his jaw-dropping numbers in the T20Is.
The southpaw averages 57.25 and has amassed 458 runs in 9 outings, including a century and five half-centuries. In case the top-order collapses, the task of ensuring the same would fall onto the
shoulders of skipper Eoin Morgan who put up mind-boggling performances in the ODIs last year. In 21 matches, the left-hander amassed 791 runs at an average of 52.13 and will be
wishing to continue his stellar exhibitions in the coming matches.
All-rounder Tom Curran had a memorable performance with both bat and ball in BBL 2019-20 and will be expected to replicate the same in the forthcoming one-days along with his brother Sam Curran. Pacers Chris Woakes and Chris Jordan have grown immensely in the white-ball cricket in the past few years. The duo has become far more potent in terms of skill set and experience. Along with spin-wizard Moeen Ali, one could bank on the trio to restrict the rivals to a petty total.

Clear skies and sunny weather could be expected in the first half, with intermittent cloud cover in the second innings. Rains won’t play a spoilsport in the coming ODI ensuring 50-overs of play
in each innings.
Batsmen should look to capitalize on the sunny conditions in the first half, as it is the bowlers who would be in advantage with the swing and seam movement in the latter stages. Not a high
the scoring contest, but certainly a cracker of a duel could be predicted. The wicket at Newlands isn’t a high scoring one with 235 as the average 1st innings total which sulks to 185 in the second innings.
The toss winning team should look to bat first on this occasion. In 42 ODIs played at this venue, the team batting first has won on 28 occasions, and since there will be pleasant sunshine in the
the first half of the play, one could expect scores as high as 250 being put to the witness.
England was crowned as the World Champions last year for winning the much-coveted 50-over tournament. The likes of Joe Root, Eoin Morgan, Jason Roy, and Ben Stokes have been in supreme form in the one-dayers and thus a victory looks plausible for the tourists amidst the conditions of Newlands.
