Unsure South Africa take on Sri Lanka in Test series opener

Hosts South Africa will be looking to start their home season on a positive note when they take on Sri Lanka in the opening Test at Centurion on Saturday.
The home side is already in state of transition after having picked seven uncapped players for the two-match series against Sri Lanka. Captain Quinton de Kock will be hoping that the side can select their strongest XI for this fixture.
On the other hand, Sri Lanka will have fond memories of their maiden series win in South Africa last year. Dimuth Karunaratne-led unit will be hoping that they can continue their winning ways against South Africa

New-look South Africa will start as favorites as they playing in their home conditions. Sarel Erwee, Migael Pretorius, Kyle Verreynne, Lutho Sipamla, Raynard Van Tonder, Glenton Stuurman and Keegan Petersen.
Kyle Verreynne and Glenton Stuurman is expected to make his debut for South Africa at Centurion. Quinton de Kock, Faf du Plessis, Dean Elgar and Temba Bavuma are the most experienced players in the Test squad.
The home side will be looking to turn things after losing eight out of nine Test matches played since 1st Feb 2019.
In the batting department, all eyes will be once again on experienced trio of Faf du Plessis, Dean Elgar and Quinton de Kock to deliver the bulk of runs, whereas Temba Bavuma will be under pressure to justify his place in the playing XI.
With Kagiso Rabada ruled out of the Test series due to side strain, the side will be relying on the likes of Lungi Ngidi, Anrich Nortje and Keshav Maharaj to make early inroads with the new-ball. Keshav Maharaj will be the lone spinner picked for this opening Test.

With Angelo Matthews ruled out of the Test series, Sri Lanka have added Dinesh Chandimal in the squad. Kusal Perera will be slotted into the playing XI in place of Angelo Matthew for this game.
In the batting department, the side will be relying on the likes of Dimuth Karunaratne, Kusal Mendis and Kusal Perera to deliver the bulk of the runs.
Surprisingly, middle-order batsman Dhananjaya de Silva has shown excellent form with the bat for Sri Lanka in the past 12 months.
Since August 2019, Dhananjaya de Silva has topped the batting charts for the Islanders with 349 runs in 5 Test matches at an average of 58.16 with two centuries and one half-century to his name.
In the bowling department, the side will be relying on experienced pacer Suranga Lakmal to make crucial breakthroughs. Pacer Lahiru Kumara, Nuwan Pradeep and Lasith Embuldeniya are other prominent options for the side for this opening game.

The pitch is expected to have pace and bounce for the quick bowlers. The pitch will certainly become easier for the batsmen from Day 2 onwards. The weather conditions for Saturday are expected to be perfect with bright sunshine.
SuperSport Park in Centurion will host the opening game of the series between South Africa and Sri Lanka. South Africa will take heart from the fact that they have won their last six Test matches at Centurion.
That side that wins the toss, would be keen to bowl first and restrict the opposition to less 250 runs.
