India will start their world cup campaign against South Africa in the eighth fixture of ICC cricket world cup 2019 at the Rose Bowl, Southampton on Wednesday.
India has both an experienced, and youth player in the squad led by skipper Virat Kohli – No1 batsman in the ICC ODI ranking for batting. They are very consistent side and have played very quality cricket in recent times across the different conditions. Skipper Virat Kohli has a very good record against Proteas, scored 1269 runs at an average of 66. Openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan are kind of pinch hitter who can get India off to a fast start in power play and build a solid platform for the middle order. Middle-order batsman, K L Rahul, and MS Dhoni also in good touch, both scored hundreds in the last warm-up. On the bowling front, Jasprit Bumrah is the ICC world's top-ranked bowler and can deliver a match-winning spell with the bowl. The Indian side will be looking for an impressive win and get some momentum for the next matches.
On the other hand, after being comprehensively beaten on all three fronts in their first two games, South Africa will hope for a much-improved performance against the strong Indian team. They are a very good side in ODI, but they didn't play up to potential. Injury concerns of the key player come as a dent to South Africa hope in the last two matches. Also, their injury list grew as Lingui Ngidi will miss the clash against India due to a hamstring injury sustained in the last match. On the positive side, Dale Steyn and Hasim Amla are expected to return to the playing eleven after recovering from injury. Like opponent, they are also relying on their key batsman – Quinton De Kock, Hasim Amla, and Faf Du Plessis. Quinton De Kock likes to bat against India, he has scored 774 runs at an average of 64. In Bowling, the team is relying heavily on key pacer Kasigo Rabada to deliver an early breakthrough.

Proteas will be looking for clinical performance in all three facets of the game and get the first point under their belt. In the last game, many batsmen got the start, but none of them was able to convert it to a match-winning knock. Their top order batsman – Quinton De Kock, Hasim Amla, and Faf Du Plessis, they need to produce some match-winning contribution. Middle-order batsman Var der Dussen looked good in last two games and he is the leading scorer for Africa with 91 runs. He would like continuing his batting form against India. Imran Tahir took four wickets in the last two games.
On the bowling front, both Kagiso Rabada and AL Phehlukwayo have been in sensational form for Proteas in last one year in ODI. K Rabadahas claimed 33 wickets in last 20 innings and AL Phehlukwayo took 31 wickets in last 19 innings. Dale Steyn, Chris Morris, and Imran Tahir will be the other bowling options for South Africa. Proteas bowlers need to be accurate against the strong batting line-up of India.

India will be feeling very confident after their convincing win in the last warm-up game against Bangladesh. In recent times, India's success is heavily relying on their top three batting order batsmen – Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, and Virat Kohli. In the first warm-up games, the top three collectively managed just 22 runs and as a result, the Indian team was bundled out for 179. But they are world class batsman, can win the match single handily on their own. Rohit Sharma is a leading scorer for India in last year, with 1416 runs in 26 innings at an average of 67. Virat Kohli Scored 1255 runs in last 19 ODI appearances at an average of 73. K L Rahul seems to be in firm contention to hold no.4 slot after fluent knock of 108 against Bangladesh in a warm-up game. India also possesses two of the most quality all-rounder in ODI – Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja. Both can be very destructive with bat and extremely effective with a bowl. On top, they are the best fielders in the Indian side.
Pacer Jasprit Bumrah is a key to India’s attack. He is the top class bowler and can be stifling with both his ability to contain runs and picking up wickets. Since Jul 2017, he has claimed 29 wickets in 18 games. Other Pacers Buvneshwar Kumar and Mohammad Shami are also equally good, both got accuracy, variety, and swing. Spinner Kuldeep Yadav/ Chahal also offers useful variety in the middle. For India, to go long way in the tournament, performance of their pacer is absolutely crucial.

In the last 10 games, highest batting total at Hampshire Bowl is 373 and the average score is 305. The numbers make it very clear about the nature of the strip of the venue. The batting paradise!
The records are in favor of the batting first team. Overall 13 out of the last 22 ODIs were won by the side batting first. So, the team would be looking to win the toss, and bat first at this venue.
Indian team looks very strong and balanced as they got top-ranked - batsman, bowler and all-rounder in their side. India is a two-time world cup champion and additionally have a very impressive record against South Africa in recent times. On the other hand, South Africa’s world cup record is not great, they didn't win any world cup title. However, they will be looking for a strong comeback in this game and get some momentum to go a long way in the tournament.
We expect it to be a close contest but India will have an advantage considering the recent form and the match winners in the side. We predict India will win this match.
