The 8th match of the Caribbean Premier League 2019 will see St Kitts and Nevis Patriots take on Barbados Tridents at their home ground Warner Park, Basseterre. The Patriots made a strong comeback in the last game against Jamaica Tallawahs to win a high scoring encounter after having gone down in their first two games. For the Barbados Tridents, the start to the season hasn’t been great as they lost their opening game against the Guyana Amazon Warriors by a huge margin.
Though St Kitts and Nevis Patriots have had a good record against the Tridents over the last two seasons the new look Tridents squad poses a big challenge for the Patriots. The batting form of the hosts has been bad apart from the last game. It remains to be seen if the Patriots are able to continue with the same form or Tridents’ spin attack would create problems for them in the game.

Carlos Brathwaite’s side played sensational cricket in the last game to win against Jamaica Tallawahs. Having chased down a score of 241 runs with one over to spare would have boosted the confidence for the side. But problems still remain as their bowlers bowled too many loose balls in the last game. The skipper would want his side to play well against the quality spinners that their opponents have.
The batting line-up looked solid in the last game after consecutive failures at the start of the season. Devon Thomas, Evin Lewis and Laurie Evans looked in great touch chasing a big score. Fabian Allen and Shamarh Brooks played nice cameos to win the game for the side. Brathwaite’s batting form is under question and the skipper will need to do well in the next game.
The bowling attack is looking in shambles for the side at the moment and in the last game, none of the bowlers were able to check the flow of runs. Alzari Joseph and Fabian Allen picked wickets by went for plenty of runs. They along with Rayad Emrit, Brathwaite and Dominic Drakes will have to bowl tighter lines in the next game.

It was a poor start to the season for Jason Holder’s side in their opening game against Guyana Amazon Warriors. A batting collapse at the top resulted in a 47 run defeat for the side in the game. Holder would know that he leads a better side than what last game’s performance would suggest. He would want his players to regain their form ahead of the next game.
Alex Hales and Johnson Charles form a strong opening pair and they would look to provide a good start to the side after failing in the last game. JP Duminy, Leniko Boucher and Jonathan Carter form a strong middle order. Holder, Ashley Nurse and Roshon Primus looked good in finishers’ role and they will be looking forward to playing well in the upcoming game.
Their bowling attack impressed in the last game especially their three main bowlers Jason Holder, Sandeep Lamichhane and Josh Lalor. These three bowlers would hold the keys to success in the next game. They would look for good support from the likes of Ashley Nurse and Roshon Primus in the next game.

The skies would be clear at St Kitts during the game with odd clouds. The first game played on this ground saw close to 500 runs being scored pointing to the nature of the wicket. The ball is coming on to the bat nicely and allowing batsmen to free their arms. There isn’t much in the surface for the fast bowlers.
VENUE
Warner Park, St Kitts is one of the best T20 grounds in the world where a flat surface and fast outfield has seen several high scoring encounters in the past. Batsmen can stand and deliver on this surface where fast bowlers have little to do. Spinners have done well at this venue in the past.
It is going to be an absolute belter of a pitch during the game where batsmen would be able to score runs freely. The wicket isn’t expected to change much during the second innings. The captain winning the toss would surely want to bat first on this surface and put a huge score on the board.
The start to the season hasn’t been great for Barbados Tridents who have one of the most exciting squads for the season full of all-rounders. After losing their first game they would be looking to make a good comeback. The hosts St Kitts and Nevis Patriots come into this game after an impressive win. They also had a bad start losing their first two games. While the hosts look strong they are expected to struggle against the spin attack of Tridents. It is a close call but Tridents have a better bowling attack and this would make them favorites in the next game.
