West Indies to win the match!

After a top-notch exhibition in the lately concluded tour game, West Indies will be wishing to emulate a similar show in the 3-match ODIs, the first of which will be played at Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo. The Caribbeans had put up competitive performances in the tour of India and relying on some of their experienced campaigners, they will go as the favorites for the one-dayers against Sri Lanka, who lack the fire in their batting and bowling units which could get them the much-coveted triumph.
The Dimuth Karunarante-led Sri Lanka possesses the likes of Avishka Fernando, Dhananjaya de Silva, Niroshan Dickwella and Angelo Mathews as the big names in their tent and will be over-reliant on them to put up match-winning numbers.
On the other hand, the West Indies can easily boast of a balanced side with Darren Bravo, Roston Chase and Pollard handling the batting duties, while Sheldon Cottrell, Keemo Paul, Hayden Walsh, and Jason Holder will carry the onus of getting the breakthroughs

The opening duo of Niroshan Dickwella and Kusal Mendis would have to set a platform for the Sri Lankan side else they might bundle out on low totals. Avishka Fernando has been a fine prospect for the hosts since his inception into one-dayers. His ability to keep the scorecard ticking is something that can keep the scoring rate under a check in the first ODI.
In the middle-order, Angelo Mathews and Thisara Perera will carry crucial roles in case the top-order fails to render a concrete show. The duo holds impeccable hitting abilities and can score a belter of runs in a span of few deliveries. Bowling wise, pacer Nuwan Pradeep will spearhead the attack for Sri Lankans.
The right-arm has scalped 54 wickets in 42 matches and along with Lahiru Kumara can topple the opposition’s top-order. Spinners Wanindu Hasaranga and Dhananjaya de Silva hold the decent international experience and will be expected to rack up the wickets with their leg-beaks and off-breaks respectively. Not to mention, Isuru Udana can be a key player for Sri Lanka as he can score quick runs in the middle-order and grab a wicket or two when needed.

The trio of Shai Hope, Darren Bravo and Brandon King is likely to go bonkers onto the Sri Lankan attack from the very moment. Hope and Bravo have batted decently in the tour matches and will be expected to take on the ante with ease. Skipper Kieron Pollard was among the key players for Windies during the tour of India and will carry a crucial role with the bat in the middle-order.
Sunil Ambris scored an unbeaten 34 off 44 deliveries in the lately finished game and with hitter Fabian Allen accompanying him in the upcoming game, one can expect an additional 30-35 runs on board if the duo gets going.
Bowling wise, the team would be banking on Keemo Paul and Sheldon Cottrell to scalp the early dismissals. Cottrell’s inswinging deliveries to the right-handed batsmen could put them under pressure in the upcoming duel. Hayden Walsh can be effective with his googlies and leg-breaks, and along with Roston Chase, the duo will be expected to ensure the fall of wickets in the middle-overs.

Clouds will circle around the stadium throughout with the temperature fluctuating between 25-31 degrees Celsius. Zero chances of rain are being foretold for the coming game, ensuring 50-overs of uninterrupted play in each innings.
The wicket at Sinhalese Sports Club doesn’t offer high scoring totals and has a scoreline of 205 as the average 1st innings total in ODIs. Bowlers, especially pacers, should look to make the most of the cloudy conditions.
The toss-winning captain should look to bowl first on this wicket. The majority of the ODIs played at this venue have been won by the team batting second and a similar fate could be expected in the coming one-dayer. The overcast conditions can restrict the hitting ability of the batters and thus, one can expect 250-260 as a par total.
Although Sri Lanka will be competing in their home conditions, one can still vouch for the Windies to be victorious at Sinhalese Sports Club. With the kind of power hitters the Caribbeans have in their armory, one can expect scores as high as 280 being chased without facing much duress.
Moreover, with the current form of Shai Hope, Darren Bravo, Roston Chase, and Kieron Pollard, a victory looks feasible for the tourists in the much-awaited contest.
