T&Cs apply, 18+
This is Adelaide Strikers’ first match of the season, while Sydney Thunders already played two and won two. In the previous five encounters, Sydney Thunders lost 4 out of five games against Adelaide Strikers, though they won their previous battle by a huge margin earlier this year. The strengths of both teams are different. While ST rely more on their batsmen and all-rounders, AS rely on their bowling unit which has a perfect combination of spin (Rashid) and pace (Siddle, Stanlake) and all-rounder Michael Neser. The Strikers must be looking to win the first match and open the account straight away while Sydney Thunder are aiming at the hat-trick of wins to remain at the top of the points table.

Sydney Thunder played two matches so far in this tournament and have won both the games. In the first game, ST made 172 runs batting first thanks to Callum Ferguson’s dazzling 44 balls 73 runs. Chris Green was handy for his quick 25 with the bat and 2 wickets for 19 as the Thunder won the game by 29 runs. Ferguson was awarded the player of the match award for his magnificent innings. In the second match against Melbourne Renegades, it was Alex Hales who took the charge during the run-chase of 170 and smashed 68 runs with the strike rate of 178.95. Khawaja too was not far behind him as he made 46 balls 66. Their middle-order needs to fire sooner or later as they seem to rely too much on top-three batsmen.
In the last 10 games, Callum Ferguson (377 runs, strike rate 141.72) is the top-scorer for the team. Among the bowlers, Daniel Sams has been the leading wicket-taker with 10 wickets in the previous 10 matches. Chris Green has been a very good all-rounder with 126 runs and 7 wickets in previous 10 games.
Key Players - Usman Khawaja, Chris Green, Callum Ferguson
Alex Hales, CP Tremain, Daniel Sams, Arjun Nair, Matthew Gilkes, Christopher Green, Chris Morris, Usman Khawaja, Callum Ferguson, Jonathan Cook, Alex Ross
With six wins and eight defeats, Adelaide Strikers ended BBL 2018-19 at the Seventh place. Colin Ingram and Ben Laughlin are out of the squad while Harry Conway, Harry Nielsen, Philip Salt and Cameron White have joined the franchise this year. The team will miss Travis Head around the national Test matches, and Alex Carey will also be not available during the ODI series with India. Philip Salt will add aggression at the top-order while Rashid Khan will look to continue his top-form just like the previous two seasons. He had been one of the strongest members of the Strikers. Wes Agar and Matt Short are the players to watch. Agar bowled really well in the Sheffield Shield, while Matt was good while playing for Victoria this year. The Strikers believe they need to be more consistent and stick to the game plans to produce better results this season.
In the last 10 games, Jonathan Wells (289 runs) and Jake Weatherald (246 runs) have been the top-scorers for AS. Among the bowlers, Rashid Khan has been the leading wicket-taker with 19 wickets in previous 14 matches, followed by Stanlake (11 wickets in 11 games).
Key Players: Wes Agar, Rashid Khan, Phil Salt
Cameron Valente, Philip Salt, Matthew Short, WA Agar, Alex Carey, Jake Weatherald, Peter Siddle, Rashid Khan, CL White, Billy Stanlake, JW Wells
On the match day, the weather at Canberra is forecasted to be patchy rain possible with the daytime temperature reaching 40°c and nighttime minimum temperature going to dip to 17°c.
The venue for the match is Manuka Oval, Canberra.
There is only one T20 international match played on this ground, between Australia and Pakistan. In this match, Pakistan scored 150 runs batting first, which was comfortably chased down by Australia in 18.3 overs. With the possibility of dew, the team winning the toss may go for fielding first.
The last BBL season was gloomy for both the teams, as Sydney Thunders and Adelaide Strikers ended the season at the sixth and the seventh place respectively. With two wins in two matches, Thunder has got the early momentum which they would want to carry on in the next match as well, while Adelaide Strikers could be a bit edgy to open their account at Canberra.
The overall statistics favor Adelaide slightly, though Sydney Thunder’s momentum and the players’ current make the prediction go in favor of Sydney Thunder.
