After their thrilling win against the Adelaide Strikers, the Sydney Thunder would be up against the Melbourne Stars in the next game.
It was a good win for the Thunder who had lost their previous one unable to defend plenty of runs in the last over against Sydney Sixers. The problem for Sydney Thunder has been their bowling attack which is failing to defend big scores. Even in the last game their bowlers nearly threw away the game from a winning position.
The Melbourne Stars, on the other hand, come into this game riding high on confidence. They have played well so far in the season to win three out of their four games. Knowing that Melbourne Stars have an explosive batting line-up, the hosts can least afford to bowl poorly in the next game. It will be interesting to see how Thunder’s bowling attack approaches the next game.

Callum Ferguson would have had his heart in his mouth in the last over against Adelaide Strikers. It seemed like a repeat of the game against the Sixers. The three-run win would have given the side lot of confidence and the skipper would want his boys to play positive cricket against an in-form Melbourne Stars side.
Alex Hales and Usman Khawaja are in good form and the side would hope to see a good start from them in the next game. Ferguson’s show in the last game would give him a lot of confidence going into the next one. They have a batting line-up that goes deep with players like Alex Ross, Chris Morris, Daniel Sams, and Chris Green being good hitters of the ball.
It is their bowling attack that has done poorly in the last two games. While Daniel Sams has been good other bowlers have failed to show their consistency. Chris Green’s good show in the last game would give the side confidence. They would want Jonathan Cook, Nathan McAndrew and Chris Morris to bowl well in the next game.
Alex Hales, Daniel Sams, Nathan John McAndrew, Arjun Nair, Matthew Gilkes, Christopher Green, Brendan Doggett, Chris Morris, Usman Khawaja, Callum Ferguson, Alex Ross
Glenn Maxwell’s side earned a thrilling 4 run win under the DLS method in their last game against the Hobart Hurricanes. With three wins in four games the side has looked in sublime form. Maxwell who is leading by example would want his side to carry on with their form into the next game.
The batting line-up has looked in good form this season and Marcus Stoinis and Peter Handscomb played well in the last game. Glenn Maxwell has played a couple of match-winning knocks already and strengthens the batting for the side. The form of Nic Maddinson and Nick Larkin is a bit of a concern at the moment and these players will look to do well in the next game.
Stars’ bowling attack is looking in great shape at the moment. Daniel Worrall and Dale Steyn have done well with the new ball and shall look to trouble batsmen in the next game. Sandeep Lamichhane has gained good form which is excellent for the side. In Nathan Coulter-Nile and Adam Zampa, they have good bowlers and these guys will look to do well in the next game.
Clint Hinchliffe, Peter Handscomb, Nic Maddinson, DW Steyn, Haris Rauf, N Larkin, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Adam Zampa, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Ben Dunk
The conditions would be slightly cloudy in Sydney on January 02. But we expect the surface to be a good one to bat on after the batsmen have seen through the initial overs. It is expected to be a high scoring encounter and the side that bats first would need a score over 170 runs to feel comfortable.
Sydney Showground Stadium is a good batting strip where lots of runs have been scored in the past in T20 games. The ball hits the bat hard allowing batsmen to play their strokes without fear. Spinners have done well at this venue in the past but there isn’t much for the fast bowlers.

It is the first game of the season on this ground and the surface would have some assistance for the bowlers in the initial overs. Most teams prefer to chase in T20s these days and we expect the side winning the toss to bowl first on this wicket.
Hosts Sydney Thunder has had their good and bad times this season and the side would go into the next game confidently after winning the previous encounter. They are up against a side that has shown good form this season and they can’t afford to play lose cricket in the game. The Melbourne Stars are performing as a unit this season with their batsmen and bowlers in good form. This will make them favorites going into the game.
