Match Preview

St Lucia Zouks and Barbados Tridents will lock horns on Thursday in yet another exciting game of the Caribbean Premier League 2020. Jason Holder led Barbados Tridents look much stronger on paper. Last year, Tridents won five league matches and defeated Guyana Amazon Warriors in the final. The defending champions already won their opening game, while St Lucia Zouks lost their initial match to Jamaica Tallawahs. Overall records of SLZ have not been impressive in CPL. Last year, St Lucia Zouks had won just 3 games. Daren Sammy’s SLZ will look to challenge the Tridents on Thursday, but that won’t be a piece of cake.

Teams Preview

St Lucia Zouks

St Lucia Zouks lost their first game of the tournament against Jamaica Tallawahs on Wednesday. After finishing the previous season of CPL as a second-worst performing team, this kind of start was not what they needed. The second game for them is going to be much tougher as they face two-time champions Barbados Tridents.

In the Wednesday game, Zouks were asked to bat first as Tallawahs won the toss. Zouks scored 158 runs thanks to Roston Chase’s 52 runs (42 balls, 4 fours, 2 sixes). Their bowlers however could not contain opponent’s Glenn Phillips before it was too late, despite getting rid of the other top-order batsman early in the power-play. Also, they hardly had any answer to Asif Ali’s blistering strokes. The side eventually lost the game by five wickets before the end of the 19th over.

Barbados Tridents started their CPL 2020 campaign by defeating St Kitts and Nevis Patriots with a narrow margin of 6 runs. After losing the toss and batting first, the top-order stumbled soon. Kyle Mayers (37 runs) and the skipper Jason Holder (38 runs) in the middle stabilized the innings, adding thirty-odd runs, both with strike rates above 170. Twenty-plus scores by Mitchell Santner and Rashid Khan proved very handy in the end, as their winning margin was mere 6 runs. Toss Prediction

So far, 11 CPL matches are played here, out of which 5 times the teams batting first have won, while 6 times the teams chasing the targets have won. In the three games played in this tournament, the captains have invariable opted to field first. The surface is overall good for batting and targets under 150 or even 160 are not easy ones to defend here.

It is recommended to field first after winning the toss.

Winning Prediction

Barbados Tridents is a strong team, the mix of experienced and young players, best suited for Twenty-20 format. The two-time CPL champions BT is a formidable side for any team, while St Lucia Zouks do not have enough statistics in their favour. Head to head record is greatly in favour of the Tridents.
