Match Preview

The 24th game of the Caribbean Premier League 2019 would serve as a great opportunity for the hosts St Lucia Zouks to move up on the points table and get a step closer to earning a berth in the playoff stage of the tournament. Their rivals Jamaica Tallawahs are struggling at the bottom of the points table despite their win in the last game. The Tallawahs would be playing the rest of the games for pride having already lost all chances of making it to the next stage. In the earlier game between the two sides, the St Lucia Zouks had registered a comfortable five-wicket win in a high scoring game. The Tallawahs have fared poorly this season although they had one of the strongest squads. It remains to be seen if the Tallawahs are able to surprise their opponents by winning the upcoming game which looks tough given their current form.

Teams Preview

St Lucia Zouks

The struggle continues for Darren Sammy’s team in this season. After having shown some promise with their win against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots the side went down by eight wickets against the Guyana Amazon Warriors. It was a poor show with the ball after they had put up a decent total on the board. Sammy would like to draw confidence from their last encounter with Tallawahs and be confident of winning the upcoming game against the side.

Batting looks good with Colin de Grandhomme and Colin Ingram looking in good form with the bat. It is their opening combination of Andre Fletcher and Rahkeem Cornwall that has to start the innings well. The pair have done well earlier in the season and look to continue with the same form. Jahmar Hamilton, Sammy and Christopher Barnwell will need to play a handy role lower down the order in the next game. It was a poor show with the ball in the last game and apart from Fawad Ahmed none of the other bowlers looked threatening. Jeavor Royal and Cornwall will need to start well with the new ball for the side to win. Kesrick Williams and Hardus Viljoen haven’t been consistent with their line and length and shall need to support their main bowlers keeping one end tied up in the next game.

St Lucia Zouks Actual Playing XI:

Jamaica Tallawahs

It was a sweet victory for Chadwick Walton’s side against the Barbados Tridents in the last game. The side would have enjoyed this win as few things have worked in their favor this season. While their batting was again put to questions the bowlers did a good job to defend the low score. Having lost to St Lucia Zouks earlier in the season the side would want to register a win here. Glenn Phillips played well in the last game for his 41 but rest of the batting looked scratchy. Chris Gayle barring a hundred in an earlier game hasn’t looked in good form.

The same has been the story with Walton, George Worker, and Dwayne Smith. Their batsmen will have to fire in the next game if the side has to do well against the Zouks. The bowling attack looks in great form going into this game. Jade Dernbach, Imran Khan and Shamar Springer bowled incredibly well in the last game to defend that low total and shall look to carry on with the same form. George Worker and Dwayne Smith need to support them well in the next game.

Jamaica Tallawahs Actual Playing XI:

Trevon Griffith, Liton Das, Ramaal Lewis, Chadwick Walton, Zahir Khan, Imran Khan, Chris Gayle, Shamar Springer, Glenn Phillips, Jerome Taylor, Dwayne Smith

Jamaica Tallawahs Predicted Playing XI

Chadwick Walton (c), Chris Gayle, Dwayne Smith, Jade Dernbach, George Worker, Ramaal Lewis, Imran Khan, Glenn Phillips (wk), Zahir Khan, Shamar Springer, Javelle Glen

Pitch And Weather Conditions

It would be clear skies at St Lucia on September 27 with odd clouds. The weather would be humid during the game. The pitch by and large is expected to be a flat one where batsmen would enjoy hitting the ball. The spinners might come into the game as the pitch wears down and the ball gets slightly older.

Venue Details

Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet, St Lucia has been famous for being a batsman friendly ground. The smaller boundaries make it easy for scoring runs with a flat surface. There is little for the fast bowlers on this surface while spinners who toss the ball up have done well here.

Toss Prediction

It has been a good surface in all the games that have been played here so far and the toss isn’t likely to affect the outcome of the game. Teams batting first have won on more occasions. We expect the skipper winning the toss to choose batting first and aim at putting up a big score on the board.

Winning Prediction

There is little to choose between St Lucia Zouks and Jamaica Tallawahs. Both the sides have been though disappointments this season. While the Tallawahs are out of the race for a place in the playoffs the Zouks are still with a chance if they win this game and their last one. The Zouks play at home and would have the entire crowd supporting them. The Tallawahs have been succumbing to pressure in most games. This would make Zouks favorites to win this one.
