Amid Covid-19 pandemics, Caribbean Premier League 2020 commences on 18 August, when the inaugural match will be played between last year’s runner up Guyana Amazon Warriors and three-time champions Trinbago Knight Riders. The prime minister of Trinidad & Tobago, Keith Rowley has shown tremendous faith in hosting the CPL as the entire tournament will be played in a biosecure environment. The players and the staff associated with the CPL will be strictly committed not to interact with the local population. The entire tournament is scheduled to take place in Trinidad and Tobago, behind closed doors to ensure the proper protection against the pandemic.
West Indies white-ball captain and power hitter Kieron Pollard will be leading TKR, while GAW side will be led by Chris Green for the 2020 season. Green has been associated with GAW since 2018 edition, and he has taken 23 wickets in his 23 matches for the side. It will be an exciting opener where TKR would look to avenge their previous year’s defeats against GAW.

Trinbago Knight Riders’ journey in the Caribbean Premier League so far has been remarkable, with three CPL titles, the highest by any CPL franchise. After winning two consecutive CPL in 2017 and 2018, they ended CPL 2019 at third place as they lost to the champions - Barbados Tridents - in the second qualifier.
TKR would want to get better off Guyana Amazon Warriors this time as they had lost both the matches against GAW in CPL 2019. The side includes great T20 specialists in Pollard, Dwayne and Darren Bravo and Lendl Simmons. With all-rounders like Sunil Narine and Sikandar Raza, the side looks impeccable. Lendl Simmons is the top batsman for Trinbago Knight Riders with his 430 runs in 11 matches while Pollard had scored 349 runs in CPL 2019. In the same edition, Narine was exceptional with the ball, with the second-best economy rate of 5.79. Ali Khan (10 wickets in 10 matches in CPL 2019) is the bowler to look for.
Key Players: Lendl Simmons, Sunil Narine, Colin Munro

Guyana Amazon Warriors had a near-perfect tournament in the last edition of CPL. Warriors had won all 10 league matches, winning at least 5 matches more than the second-best team as per the points table. In the first qualifier of CPL 2019, they managed to defeat Barbados Tridents to make their 5th final appearance. However, the Tridents defeated the Warriors in the final, ending their dream-run as the CPL title eluded them once again.
Under Green’s leadership, the side has all the players to make a great impact yet again. Warriors have dangerous batsmen like Nicholas Pooran, Chandrapaul Hemraj, and Brandon King. King was the highest run-scorer of CPL 2019 with 496 runs in 12 matches, smashing 1 century, 3 half-centuries, and 3 innings in the thirties. Imran Tahir was the second most successful bowler of CPL 2019 with 16 wickets in just 9 matches. He was also the most economic bowler with a rate of 5.63. Chris Green had grabbed 13 wickets in 12 matches.
Key Players: Nicholas Pooran, Chandrapaul Hemraj, Keemo Paul, Ross Taylor

On the match day, the weather at Trinidad is expected to be partly sunny with a couple of showers and a thunderstorm. The daytime temperature can reach 31°c while nighttime minimum temperature will be around 25°c. Precipitation of 3.8 mm is expected.
The venue for this match is Brian Lara Cricket Academy. It is a multi-purpose stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad and Tobago. It hosted all three CPL finals since 2017.
In the last three seasons, 4 out of 8 matches played here are won by the side batting first and 4 are won by the teams chasing the targets. In CPL 2019, two matches were played here, and both were won by the teams batting first. The pitch is good for batting. The team batting first should look to post 160 plus runs on the board.
It is recommended to bat first after winning the toss.
In the previous CPL season, Guyana Amazon Warriors had won all the games, including the two wins over TKR, before facing the painful defeat in the final at the hands of Barbados Tridents. But the overall performance of TKR across all the CPL seasons is equally good. Though, both the teams are strong and well balanced, TKR has a slight edge over GAW considering the overall statistics and the venue of the match. The Knight riders are superior while playing at their home.
