Tshwane Spartans could only settle for 2 points in their previous game against Jozi Stars as the match was washed out. This keeps them in the 3rd place in the points table with 21 points and a Net Run Rate of +0.519. This has dented their prospects of being in the top two for the playoffs and their last match against 5th placed Cape Town Blitz hence becomes crucial.
The last time these two teams had met, Cape Town Blitz had registered a comfortable 15-run win. That will be playing on captain Heinrich Klaasen's mind as they host Cape Town for their last league game. Cape Town Blitz, meanwhile, is coming off an 11-run loss against Nelson Mandela Bay Giants in their last match. With 17 points and a poor Net Run Rate of - 0.077, their chances of making the playoffs are as good as gone as they have only 1 game left.
However, captain JJ Smuts would hope that his team would leave a mark in the game and spoil the chances of Tshwane Spartans. That being said, the Spartans are a strong outfit and would be confident of securing a win in their last game and along with it their ticket for the playoffs.

Tshwane Spartans have been rather unfortunate in the Mzansi Super League 2019. Three times this season, the Centurion-based side has been unable to play at home due to external factors. This has affected their chances as the rain-affected games at the start of the league left them with only one win from their first three matches. However, the Spartans have come back strongly and have every chance of making the playoffs if they win their last match.
AB de Villiers is obviously the main superstar for the Spartans and the good news is that he is finding a great rhythm in the last few games. He has had scores of 53, 69*, 31 and 63 in his last 4 matches and is expected to play a key role in this game as well. Dean Elgar is their second-highest run-getter with 180 runs in 6 games.
The other batsmen haven't been as consistent and captain Heinrich Klaasen himself would like to lead from the front. Wiaan Mulder scored a 50 in the last game and that is good news for the team. Experienced fast bowler Morne Morke(10 wickets) has led the bowling unit of the Spartans and is expected to do well again. The other bowler who has done well for the team is Lungi Ngidi (9 wickets) and spinner Roelof van der Merwe. The others have to do much better.
Cape Town Blitz could have done much better in the season had they not lost even after being in good positions. In the last game itself, their openers put up an incredible stand of 85. And yet, they fell apart, later on, to be dismissed for 162 runs in a chase of 173.
Their batting has been very good this season with opener Ben Dunk being the lead scorer (358 runs). Captain Quinton de Kock(235 runs) has been good at the top as well. The others, though, barring Liam Livingstone haven't done much. In the last match they played against the Spartans, David Bedingham had top-scored with a 53. And the team would be hoping for a repeat performance from the batsman. In the bowling department, Cape Town Blitz has had some good options. Dale Steyn has been leading the unit and breathing fire with 16 wickets under his kitty already.
The experienced fast bowler will be looking to do the damage early on in this game. Wahab Riaz produced a superb spell of 3-16 in the last match and would be high on confidence. Anrich Nortje and Sisanda Magala too have done well. But Vernon Philander who has gone at an economy of 9.63 has been a disappointment.

In the one completed game at SuperSport Park in Centurion, we saw a low-scoring encounter where the pitch assisted both the batsmen and the bowlers. This is a true surface and should remain good throughout if the weather permits. The average score batting first here is 168 hence a total of 160-170 could prove to be a match-winning one. There is rain expected on Sunday at Centurion. Hence we could see another rain-curtailed match.
Only one game has been completed at SuperSport Park in Centurion this season of the Mzansi Super League. This has traditionally been a very good surface where batsmen have often had a field day. The highest T20 total achieved on this venue is whopping 241-6 by South Africa against England in 2009.
The team winning the toss is likely to bowl first because of the unpredictable weather and the situation of the points table. Having a target and then going for it would be better for both the teams.
This is a tricky game to call. On paper, Tshwane Spartans look the better side and have a more balanced outfit. However, they have lost 3 consecutive games against Cape Town Blitz which should suggest that the latter has the edge.
However, Tshwane Spartans will be playing at home and had comfortably won the only completed match they got to play here. With AB de Villiers coming in great form, the Spartans look dangerous. A good knock from him along with support from the bowlers could see them going through.
Cape Town Blitz is still not out of contention for the playoffs, although qualification looks difficult as Durban Heat which is above them have still 2 games left. But Cape Town would like to end on a winning note and hope for the best. A rain-curtailed match could certainly give them an advantage. We are certainly in for a close and exciting game. That being said, Tshwane Spartans are the stronger of the two sides and playing at home they should be backed as the winners of this contest.
Tshwane Spartans will win the match!
