Match Preview

The T20 series went against much of what was expected as the Indian team won the series convincingly 3-0. The West Indian team which has done well in this format and had several quality players on their side failed to live up to the expectations of their fans and surrendered due to some ordinary batting from their side. Their bowlers also failed to trouble the Indian team in the last two games.

In recent years, West Indies has had a poor record against India in One Day Internationals and have managed to win just one out of the last 10 games they have played. With the ODI squad seeing the comeback of some of their biggest starts it would be interesting to see how the side does in the game. Though Indians don’t have their best bowling attack the newcomers have grabbed the opportunities with both hands.

Teams Preview

West Indies

Jason Holder returns as skipper after the bad show the side put up in the World Cup. He is leading a bunch of talented individuals but they haven’t done well as a team since the last home series against England. He would want his senior players to do well against the Indian side that is expected to come hard at them.

Chris Gayle and Evin Lewis would look to provide the side a good start in the game especially Lewis who has been in poor form. Shai Hope, Shimron Hetmyer and Nicholas Pooran make a very strong middle order for the side. With Jason Holder and Carlos Brathwaite, they have great finishers. They would have to put a price on their wicket to do well in the game.

Oshane Thomas and Sheldon Cottrell did well in the World Cup and they would look to do the same in the next game. Holder would bring in all this experience to the game and the side would want to see good bowling performance from Brathwaite and Fabian Allen in the game.

West Indies Actual Playing XI:

Kemar Roach, Shimron Hetmyer, Carlos Brathwaite, Nicholas Pooran, Fabian Allen, Jason Holder, Sheldon Cottrell, Roston Chase, Shai Hope, Evin Lewis, Chris Gayle

India

Virat Kohli would be confident ahead of the first game of the ODI series. His team has done well in the T20s and have enjoyed dominance over the opponents. With his wrist spinners back in the side the skipper would count on his chances. He would want his middle order to deliver in the next game.

They have a strong top-order going into this game with openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan looking in good form, Virat Kohli has been scoring runs and with KL Rahul and Manish Pandey in the middle would feel confident. Rishab Panth has also shown his class so far but the side and Ravindra Jadeja adds the power hitting element towards the end of the innings.

Mohammad Shami comes back to the side and strengthens the bowling attack and in the company of Bhuvneshwar Kumar would be looking to pick early wickets. Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal would look to trouble the West Indian line-up in the game with their wrist spin. Jadeja being in the attack makes it look strong.

India Actual Playing XI:

Khaleel Ahmed, Shikhar Dhawan, Kedar Jadhav, Kuldeep Yadav, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Virat Kohli, Mohammed Shami

India Predicted Playing XI

Virat Kohli (C), Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Manish Pandey, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammad Shami, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal

Pitch And Weather Conditions

There might be some cloud cover in Guyana on August 08 but the pitch would be a good one to bat on as we have seen in the last T20. The ball would come onto the bat nicely and batsmen can easily hit through the line. A run feast seems to be on the cards in the game.

VENUE

Providence Stadium, Guyana is one of the best ODI wickets in the Caribbean. The pitch has true bounce and pace and it is easy to hit through the line of the ball. The shorter boundaries also make run-scoring easy. The spinners get some assistance as the game progresses.

Toss Prediction

In the last five games played at this venue the side batting first has won on four occasions. The pitch is best to bat on in the first innings as it starts to get slower as the game progresses and assists the spinners. The side winning the toss would like to put up a big score on the board.

Winning Prediction

The performance of West Indies in the T20 series was dismal. They batted poorly in all the three games with their openers failing to offer the start the side would have expected from them. Indians, on the other hand, have done well and would be happy to have seen everyone contributing to the wins. Having good wrist spinners and an in-form top order would make Indians favorites in the game.
