West Indies Women managed to win a nail-bitter in the first game of the three-match ODI series. They defeated India Women by 1 run at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua. The Indian team looked all set for a victory but a late order batting collapse saw them going down in the game. Being 0-1 down in the series the visitors will have to win this game to save the series. West Indies Women also had their problems in the game and their bowling attack looked unthreatening in the initial overs. The side is known for its inconsistency and hasn’t done well in the last few games.
With both sides having competed well in the last game the next one is expected to be an interesting one.

Stafanie Taylor had a perfect day in the last game. She played a captain’s knock and saw her side winning a thriller. Though not everything went according to the script for the side she would like her girls to take confidence from this win and play well in the next one as India Women would definitely come hard at them. Natasha McLean did well in her comeback game but opening partner Stacy-Ann King looked out of sorts. They will be looking to provide a good start to the side.
Taylor and Chedean Nation played well in the last game and the side would expect a better show with the bat from the likes of Shemaine Campbelle, Kyshona Kinight and Chinelle Henry in the game. Stacy-Ann King and Chinelle Henry will need to pick wickets with the new ball which they failed in the last game. Anisa Mohammad looked good picking up a fifer in the game and sealing the victory for her side. The team would also look for a good show with the ball from the likes of Aaliyah Alleyne and Taylor.
Mithali Raj would have been extremely upset with the way her side played in the last game. They looked all set for a win but failed to close the game in the final overs. The skipper would have been happy with the performance of her bowlers though in the game and shall look to win the next game and level the series 1-1 Jemimah Rodrigues and Priya Punia played well at the top and they would look to do the same in the next game.
Smriti Mandhana coming into the side will add strength to the batting. In the middle order, the side has good strength with Harmanpreet Kaur, Mithali Raj and Deepti Sharma all being in good form and they will need to convert their starts in the next game for the side to win. Jhulan Goswami and Shikha Pandey bowled well in the last game with the new ball and the side would want to see the same kind of performance from them in the next game. Ekta Bisht, Deepti Sharma and Poonam Yadav also kept the line tight and they would look to carry on with the same form in the next game.
The weather forecast for November 03 at Antigua is of clear skies and this would make the conditions good for batting. The pitch is likely to be flatter than the previous game and the batters would be able to play their strokes freely. The side that bats first on this surface would have to eye a total of around 270 runs to win this game.
Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua has been a batting friendly wicket. The shorter square boundaries allow batters to score runs quickly. Fast bowlers get some assistance in the early overs and spinners also do well on this track as the game progresses and the pitch slows down.
In the first ODI played at this venue the pitch looked a good one to bat on in the first innings and it kept slowing down as the game progressed where the spinners became dominant. The side that wins the toss in the upcoming game would be looking to bat first and put up a big score on the board.
It was an uncharacteristic loss for the strong India Women squad in the last game. They had paced their chase well but some mindless batting in the end saw them go down by 1 run. Though the West Indies Women would have cherished the win the side to has its own issues not having bowled well in the first half of the Indian innings. With Smriti Mandhana likely to play in the next game the Indian side would be strengthened. Though it is still a tight call between the two sides the Indian team would start nose ahead of West Indies in the game.
