West Indies Women’s big challenge in the 1st T20I
West Indies Women to win this game!
T&Cs apply, 18+
The ODI series is now over and the India Women have comfortably won the three-match series 2-1 and the result could have been 3-0 has the visitors not lost the first game of the series by a margin of one run. As the sides now go into the five-match T20 series it will be a different ball game.
West Indies Women have done well in this format and as the world champions, they would fancy their chances going into this game.
The Indian team doesn’t have the best of records against the West Indies in T20is and have lost the last four out of five games against them. They will have to play well against the hard hitting West Indies batting line-up on the flat track of St Lucia. This would be a big challenge for the Indian spinners to contain their opponents to a low score.

Stafanie Taylor would like her side to put the setback of the ODIs and have their focus on the first game of the T20 series. The skipper would like her team to take confidence from the fact that they have done well in this format in the past against the Indians and shall look to continue the domination. Kyshona Knight and Hayley Matthews will look to provide the side with a good start. This has been the problem area of the side.
In the middle order Stafanie Taylor, Stacy-Ann King and Natasha McLean shall have to steer the innings and set up a perfect platform for the likes of Sheneta Grimmond and Shabika Gajnabi to launch an attack towards the end. Sheneta Grimmond and Taylor will need to pick early wickets with the new ball as Indians are a top-heavy batting line-up. Anisa Mohammed and Afy Fletcher haven’t done too well with the new ball and shall need to control the flow of runs in the middle overs for the side.
Afy Fletcher, Stacy-Ann King, Hayley Matthews, Kyshona Knight, Shemaine Campbelle, Chedean Nation, Chinelle Henry, Anisa Mohammed, Shakera Selman, Aaliyah Alleyne, Natasha McLean

Harmanpreet Kaur the Indian skipper would want her side to carry on with the same kind of form as they showed in the ODI leg of the tour. But the skipper would be aware of the fact that the hosts are a different unit when it comes to T20is and they will have to play hard cricket to win this game. The side would need a good start from Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma at the top and these players have been in good form.
The middle-order also looks good for the side with Jemimah Rodrigues, Veda Krishnamurthy and Kaur having good abilities with the bat. The likes of Deepti Sharma and Pooja Vastrakar will have to make quick runs towards the end of the innings. In the bowling department, the side would rely on Shikha Pandey and Deepti Sharma to pick wickets with the new ball. This will be very important against the strong top-order that the opponents have. The likes of Vastrakar, Harmanpreet Kaur and Poonam Yadav will need to control the scoring rate in the middle overs.

There are chances of rain at this venue on November 10 and this might make batting challenge. The pitch would be flat but there would be some movement in the air for the fast bowlers. Batters will need to hold their ground for long instead of trying to slog. A score of 130-140 runs would be a challenging total on this surface.
Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet, St Lucia is a batter friendly ground in ideal conditions. The shorter boundaries allow batters to free their arms. Fast bowlers don’t get much of moment unless its overcast conditions and spinners have to flight the ball to do well here.
The pitch at St Lucia will be a good one to bat on at the start of the game but with the predictions for rain the side chasing the score would have an advantage. The side that wins the toss would likely opt to bowl first and aim to restrict the opponents to a small score.
India Women have done well in the ODI series and they have won it convincingly. West Indies Women have had a bad run of form at home but when it comes to T20s and team changes its character. With big hitters of the ball in their side, they will fancy their chances in the game. With predictions of rain, Indian spinners are likely to have a tough time in the game and this would make West Indies Women favorites to win this game.
